Richarlison, a Brazilian international who plays for Tottenham, left the field on 2-0 victory over Everton on a limp, indicating that his World Cup prospects are now in trouble.
After leaving Tottenham’s stadium on crutches, an emotional Richarlison acknowledged that his World Cup ambition was in doubt.
The 25-year-old seems destined to join Tite’s Selecao team as they pursue a record-breaking sixth world Cup title. But after Richarlison injured his calf during Spurs’ victory against Everton, that is now much of concern.
Antonio Conte, the manager for Tottenham, confirmed the £60 million striker will be sent for a scan after it nearly brought him to tears.
Richarlison only played 52 minutes against the team he left in the summer before hobbling off with the score tied.
As a result of his departure, the home team changed their formation, and Yves Bissouma entered the game to help Antonio Conte’s team earn another Premier League three points.
Despite playing poorly in the first half and being fortunate not to be down, Tottenham improved after the break and were leading when Richarlison suffered an injury.
Harry Kane handed them the lead from the penalty spot inside six minutes. Richarlison, who has contributed significantly since moving to London but has yet to score a Premier League goal for Spurs, will find little pleasure in this.
As the World Cup draws near, the attacker will be praying the injury is not too severe. Before his setback, it appeared more likely that the 25-year-old may assume a starting role for Brazil in their roster for the tournament in a month.
Conte will be hoping Richarlison’s injury is not serious so he can use him in the match against Manchester United on October 19 at Old Trafford. The manager did admit, though, that it doesn’t seem good for that particular game after their match.
Dejan Kulusevski, who hasn’t played since September 17 due to a thigh issue, is another player in question for the Spurs.
Tottenham still has nine games to play before the Premier League takes a break on November 13. Conte also said that Kulusevski needs time to recuperate from his issue.
And if the forward line sustains yet another injury setback, Conte might decide it’s time to commit to playing an extra midfielder for the Spurs.
