Reiss Nelson has reportedly refused to sign a new contract with Arsenal. There are reports that the 23 years old attacker may leave the North London side at the end of the season.
Nelson is one of the four current first-time players who graduated from the Arsenal academy, including Bukayo Saka, Emile Smith-Rowe and Eddie Nketiah.
There are thoughts that Arsenal want to tie Nelson to a longer contract. However, the rejection of the contract is not the end of the negotiations, as Arsenal want him to continue playing under Mikel Arteta.
Should no agreement occur, Nelson will become a free agent at the end of the season. Arsenal will miss out on a fee for the highly-rated youngster.
The English star had limited games in 2022–23 due to injuries and also because of the consistency of Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka. Nelson has been frustrated by the lack of playing opportunities at the club.
Interest from big clubs are already coming in, with reports that Brighton and AC Milan are monitoring Nelson’s contract situation.
Nelson has not started a single match in the Premier League this season. Also, the player has not started a Premier League game since 2019, making only six substitutions.
Though he started off from the bench, he scored a winner against Bournemouth to complete a 3-2 comeback in the 96th minute on March 4.
In recent years, Arsenal have offloaded a lot of poor-performing, wage-sucking players and made room for agile and strong ones who are ready to represent the club at the highest level.
