- Real Madrid have won their 34th on July 16, 2020
- Real Madrid has won eight La Liga title than Barcelona
- It took 10-game winning streak since La Liga returned in June after a three-month break due to the coronavirus for Real Madrid to overtake Barcelona and win the league
Though they have one match left to play, their win over Villarreal was enough to give them the title with 86 points in 37 matches. They will play their last game of the season away against Leganes on Sunday, 19 July 2020.
This is the 34th time in history that Real Madrid have been crowned the champions of the Spanish La Liga. This is also the second time the manager of Madrid, Zinedine Zidane, has won the Spanish La Liga title for the club as a manager. His first win as a manager came in the 2016–17 season.

Real Madrid vs Villarreal: Watch the Highlights below:
The second-placed Barcelona could not sustain the pressure on their Spanish rivals as they fell in the hands of Osasuna at Camp Nou.
Jose Arnaiz took advantage of Pique’s defensive lapses to drive home the first goal in the 15th minute. Lionel Messi equalised for the home team in the 62nd minute.
Though Osasuna’s Enric Gallego, who came on as a substitute was sent off for elbowing Clement Lenglet in the face in the 77th minute, the visitors managed to score the winning goal in the 90+4th minute through the boots of Roberto Torres.
Barcelona relinquished the title they won during the 2018-2019 season to Real Madrid with 79 points from 37 games. They also have a game left to play. Their last game for the season is away against Alaves on Sunday, 19 July 2020.
Even if the former Spanish champions win their match on Sunday and Real Madrid lose to Leganes, Madrid will still have four points more than Barcelona.
La Liga 2020 standing at the end of the season
There is only one round of games left for the La Liga 2020 season to officially end, however, Real Madrid has secured enough points to win the league. With the 86 total points earned as of today July 16, 2020, Madrid are 7 points ahead of Barcelona and that is enough to declare them the winners of the league. Although all the teams in the league have 1 game left before the season ends, no club would be able to catch up to Real Madrid. As a result, they are the official winners of the 2020 La Liga title.
