Real Madrid drew for the first time this season as Osasuna held them at the Bernabeu with 10 men after Karim Benzema missed a late penalty.

Osasuna, which has had a strong start to the new season, came to the Bernabeu to spoil the celebration for the second consecutive year, preventing Madrid from making it eight wins in a row.

With ten men on the field, the visitors fought back to maintain a 1-1 draw, but Los Blancos had plenty of chances to win it. Karim Benzema will be furious with himself for failing to score during the game.

The attacker watched a wonderful volley in the first half kiss the outside of the post, missed a penalty, and had a goal disallowed for offside.

Losing tonight has caused a ruckus at the top of the league standings; Real Madrid and Barcelona are now tied on 19 points, and another El Clasico between the two Spanish football juggernauts will take place on October 16.

As the game concluded in a 1-1 draw, Osasuna earned their second consecutive away point at the Santiago Bernabeu, ending Real Madrid’s perfect La Liga record.

In this match, Los Rojillos knew they had not beaten Los Blancos since 2011, and Jagoba Arrasate’s team held their own in the first minutes in search of a win.

Three minutes before halftime, however, a stroke of luck went in Madrid’s favor when Vinicius Jr.’s cross from the left flank eluded everyone and found its way past Osasuna goalkeeper Sergio Herrera to put Los Blancos in front.

Six minutes after halftime, Osasuna equalized the score. As the striker made his first league appearance of the season for the Pamplona-based team, Kike Garcia’s looped header went over Real Madrid backup goalkeeper Andrey Lunin.

Then, with ten minutes remaining, Real Madrid had a fantastic chance to grab the lead after David Garcia was penalized for tripping Karim Benzema in the area.

After that, the Osasuna defender received a straight red card for interfering with a clear chance to score.

When Benzema took the penalty kick, Herrera in the Osasuna goal exhaled in relief as he witnessed his strong effort smack against the top of the crossbar and go behind.

The ten men of Osasuna held off late pressure from Madrid to finish the match, continuing their strong start to the year and moving up to sixth place in La Liga.

Los Blancos, meanwhile, are now equal with Barcelona at the top of the standings with 19 points but Barca are occupying the first spot with superior goals difference.

Vinicius Jr. Was named Man of the Match due to his tenacity during the game and his 42nd minute opener that lasted untill in the 50th minute before Kike scored the equaliser for Osasuna.

Regardless of the outcome, Vinicius Jr delivered another spectacular performance for his team, and given his present form, Carlo Ancelotti would have no choice but to keep him in the first team roster always.

During the game, the 22-year-old Brazilian forward had five successful dribbles, the most on the field, and he wreaked havoc down the left wing for the majority of the game. He completed two important passes in total as well.
