European reigning champions Real Madrid will take on Al-Hilal in the 2023 FIFA Club World Cup final in Morocco.
After a number of knockout games, the 2023 FIFA Club World Cup has been narrowed down to the European and Spain champions Real Madrid and Asian and Saudi Arabia champions Al-Hilal.
Salem Al-Dawsari’s two penalties and Luciano Vietto’s spectacular close-range effort was enough for Al-Hilal to get past ten-men flamingo in Morocco.
Ramon Diaz’s side made history by becoming the first ever Saudi club to progress to the Club World Cup final, where they will tackle European contingents Real Madrid.
As things stand, a win for Al Hilal in the final will be a major upset. Real Madrid hope to continue on the blueprint of past European representatives in the tournament.
It was Sporing Club Corinthians Paulista, who punctuated a serial winning run by European clubs in the tournment, winning it in 2012/13 edition. Since 2007/08, when AC Milan won the competition, European clubs have held sway over the tournament.
Chelsea is the last European club who won the tournament, and Real Madrid will hope to bring the trophy back to Europe when taking on the Saudi club in the final.
Al Hilal is another giant in Asian and Saudi Arabian football, but will need to put on a masterclass performance if they are to go all the way as they come up against the most decorated team in the competition.
Real Madrid cruised to an easy win over African champions Al Ahly, demolishing them 4-1 to reach the final of the tournament. Hence, Los Blancos are expected to fly pass Al-Hilal in the final and lift the trophy.
