The Spanish La Liga giants, Real Madrid are reportedly depending on the sales of their embattled forward, Gareth Bale, to raise funds to buy other players during this summer transfer window.

It was reported that the coronavirus pandemic which forced football to a halt for over three months and also forced football to be played behind closed doors when the game resumed in June, has hugely affected the revenue of Real Madrid.

Though the Spanish giants were just crowned champions of the Spanish La Liga, their financial situation might not allow them to partake actively in the transfer market this summer if Gareth Bale does not get a new club. The 31-year-old Wales forward has been suffering a lot especially from the club’s manager, Zinedine Zidane, since it was perceived that Bale was being distracted by his love for golf.

Prior to the coronavirus break in the just-concluded Spanish La Liga 2019-2020 season, there were occasions where the fans in the stadium booed Bale, especially after his infamous “Wales. Golf. Madrid. In that order” celebration when his national team qualified for the then UEFA Euro 2020.

The former Tottenham talisman then entered the black book of Zinedine Zidane who only used the Welshman twice after the coronavirus break. The manager even went as far as completely leaving him out in their last three games before the season ended. Despite the obvious crisis between Zidane and Bale, the French tactician insisted that they were united. However, Bale decided to prove otherwise when the club was celebrating their La Liga triumph in July.

All these are signs that Real Madrid are no longer interested in the player that used to be a match-winner for the team. But they would not let him go for free. Hence, a buyer who would pay good money for the services of the out of favor star is desperately needed in order to raise funds for this summer transfer business according to ESPN.

Why Bale could be stuck with Real Madrid

The big issue with getting rid of Bale this summer is, just like how Real Madrid are complaining of not having enough funds for the transfer market, so do most big clubs across Europe. Recall that Real Madrid bought Bale on 1 September 2013 for a then transfer record worth about €100.8 million. Hence the club would not want him to go cheaply.

More so, according to reports, Bale earns £350,000 a week after tax as Real Madrid player; unfortunately for the club, most big clubs across Europe would not want to sign a player that would earn that much amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Besides is weekly wages, since Real Madrid’s manager has left him on the bench for so long and his profile as a prolific forward has drastically dropped, clubs would be reluctant to sign a 31-year-old player whose match fitness can not be guaranteed.

To make matters worse, the personal handlers of Bale have disclosed that the player is happy at Madrid despite not playing and he intends to see through his contract with the club which will expire in June 2022.

    Real Madrid’s option…

Real Madrid know the kind of corner they have found themselves, hence, they have started trying to raise funds from other sources. One such is to sell their academic players like Achraf Hakimi who just joined Inter Milan for €40 million.

Also, Real Madrid are on the verge of selling their 22-year-old Spanish attacking midfielder, Oscar Rodriguez who has been on loan at Leganes. The Spanish club are currently negotiating with Villarreal for the sale of the Spanish youngster this summer all in an attempt to raise funds.
