    Raphael Varane has announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 31.

    Varane took to his Instagram account to reveal his decision to call time on his career, expressing that “a new life begins off the pitch”.

    The former Real Madrid star put out a lengthy statement on his account, where he chronicled his career journey and appreciated the fans.

    The statement reads: “They say all good things must come to an end. In my career I have taken on many challenges, rose to occasion after occasion, almost all of it was supposed to be impossible.

    “Incredible emotions, special moments, and memories that will last a lifetime. Reflecting on these moments, it is with immense pride and a feeling of fulfillment that I am announcing my retirement from the game that we all love.”

    Varane’s Never-say-die Attitude

    Raphael Varane pointed out his never-say-die attitude, stressing that he has surmounted challenges, but this is the time for him to retire from active football.

    He added: “Desire and needs are two different things. I have fallen and risen a thousand times, and this time, it’s the moment to stop and hang my boots up with my final game winning a trophy at Wembley.”

    Varane also shared that he loved fighting for himself, his clubs, his country, his teammates, and the supporters of every team he represented.

    Additionally, Raphael Varane emphasized how grateful he is for the career he has had and indicated that he has “no regrets” and he wouldn’t change anything about it.

    The 31-year-old also touched on his principles of “being sincere” and how he tried to leave every club he played for better than he met them.

    Raphael Varane’s decision to retire from football came to the fore due to a knee injury that he sustained in Como’s Coppa Italia clash with Sampdoria on August 11, 2024.

    Varane was withdrawn in the 23rd minute for Edoardo Goldaniga due to a knock and that has led to him calling time on his football career and terminating his one-year deal with Como.

    Raphael Varane joined the Italian side on a one-year deal in the summer of 2024, following the expiration of his contract with Manchester United in June 2024.
