Real Madrid will be without defender Eder Militao for Tuesday’s Champions League game against Inter Milan after he tested positive for COVID-19.

The 22-year-old Brazilian who joined Galacticos from Porto last year will therefore undergo a mandatory period of self-isolation.

Eder Militao is seen as long term replacement for Ramos or Varane at Real Madrid

A club statement confirmed Militao as the only positive case after players, coaching staff, and club employees were tested on Sunday.

“Real Madrid CF announces that our player Éder Militão has given a positive result in the COVID-19 tests carried out yesterday Sunday morning.

“All the other players and the coaching staff of the first team, as well as all the club employees who work directly with them, gave negative results in that same test. Likewise, it is confirmed once again that all of them, with the exception of Éder Militão, have given negative results in the antigen tests carried out this morning.”

Militao, who played 15 games for the La Liga champions last season has already played three games this season. He has been standing in for Sergio Ramos, who was at a point injured before returning for the El Clsssico.

The Spanish giants are currently rooted to the bottom of Champions League Group B, as they host third-placed Inter in Madrid.

Real has just one point from their first two group stage games, losing 3-2 to Shakhtar and drawing 2-2 with Borussia Monchengladbach.

COVID-19 won’t make Madrid miss Militao as Ramos is available again

Since his return from injury, Ramos looked to have steadied the ship for the Galacticos.

The captain has been the mainstay of the team for years and he appears to have a huge understanding with Rapaheal Varne.

Madrid usually struggles at the back in the absence of the veteran as Varane usually conceded school boy errors during this periods.

At a press conference today, the Frenchman said he feels more comfortable having a compact defensensive partnership with the Spanish world cup winner.

“As a defense, I feel more comfortable when the team defends more compactly since with spaces we have to choose complicated decisions behind.

“Ramos contributes a lot at the collective level and that character that he has is very good for the team. I don’t know if it’s a coincidence, but without He has not been well on a defensive level.

“My qualities are complemented by his. I make him better and it does the same to me. The important thing is the collective and the answer is collective: to be all well and together “.
