RB Leipzig Sign Xavi Simons On Loan Again PSG

PSG attacking sensation Xavi Simons is set to continue on his loan contract with RB Leipzig after an impressive debut campaign with the club last season.

Simons, 22, had joined Leipzig on a season-long loan deal summer and was due back to his parent club PSG after the end of last season. Now, it has been confirmed he will continue with the Bundesliga outfit on another season-long loan deal till the end of the upcoming 2024-25 season.

Bayern Munich and top Premier League clubs had led the list of clubs interested in Simons, but the Dutch sensation has chosen to stay for another season with Leipzig after the club agreed terms with PSG again, as reported by Fabrizio Romano.

He got off the mark for Leipzig last season, recording an impressive 19 Bundesliga goal contributions, comprising eight goals and 11 assists.

Xavi Quenty Shay Simons, born on April 3, 2003, is a Dutch professional footballer who plays as an attacking midfielder for French club PSG and the Netherlands senior national team but is currently on loan to RB Leipzig.

Known for his attacking flair and dribbling skills, Simons began his career with CE Thader in 2008. He played for the club’s youth team before joining Barcelona’s La Masia in 2010.

He spent a huge part of his youth career playing for Barcelona Youth from 2010 to 2019 before joining PSG Youth in 2019. At PSG, he spent a further three years, learning the cuts and thrusts of the game with PSG youth. Meanwhile, he recorded his breakout campaign with PSG’s first team in 2021 while still playing for the club’s academy.

Simons made seven appearances for PSG’s first team. On June 22, 2022, he signed for Dutch outfit PSV Eindhoven with PSG attaching a €6m buy-back clause to the deal to allow the French champions to re-sign him from 2023.

On July 2023, PSG triggered the €6m buy-back clause on the contract and bought back Simons to Ligue 1 on a four-year contract till 2027. However, he failed to make a single Ligue 1 appearance for the club and was immediately loaned to RB Leipzig in Germany.

Xavi Simon’s career stats

Xavi Simons made seven appearances for PSG’s first team after his 2021 breakout season before joining PSG Eindhoven. At PSV, he tallied 34 Eredivisie appearances, scoring 19 goals. He also made 14 appearances in other competitions for the club, scoring three additional goals.

At RB Leipzig, Xavi Simons has made 32 Bundesliga appearances for the club, and 11 in non-league matches, scoring 10 goals in all. Overall, he has made 109 club career appearances, scoring 32 goals.

Xavi Simons’s international career

Xavi Simons is one of the few Dutch players who have played for all levels of the Dutch national youth teams before a call-up to the senior national team. He had played for Netherlands U-15, U-16, U-17, U-19, and U-21. The 2003-born talent made his debut with the Dutch senior national team in 2022 and has been capped 20 times since then, scoring 2 goals.

Xavi Simons has a running four-year contract with PSG. He has three years left on the deal, having expended a year on loan to RB Leipzig. According to Fabrizio Romano, the prolific midfielder is set for another loan spell with Leipzig.
