Manchester United star Rasmus Hojlund has rebutted comparisons with Man City rival Erling Haaland, claiming he’s world best striker.
The player immediately drew comparison with City’s Haaland due to their similar names, statures and hailing from Scandinavia.
In an interview with Norwegian outlet TV2, Hojlund took out his time to praise Haaland and talk down on the similarities between the two.
The Manchester United ace said in the interview that “I hope that one day I can reach his level, but right now, I think it is too early.”
“Erling is in any case the world’s best striker, if not the world’s best footballer. I don’t really want to be compared to him, but I hope that one day I can be like him,” Rasmus Hojlund added.
Rasmus Hojlund also went on to add: “Who knows? I am only 20 years old. We will have to see what it can end up with.”
Hojlund will go head to head with Haaland for the first time when Man United faces Man City in the Manchester Derby on 29th October, 2023.
Hojlund said: “As I said, Erling is a class player. He has had some absolutely outstanding years! He must stop when we meet him! He is a crazy football player. I try to learn from him.”
He was also asked how good he could become in the future, he said: “I do not know! We will have to see that. I take it one day at a time and try to get better every day.”
“I like that there are expectations of me. I enjoy it,” the Denmark international concluded.
In other news, former United striker Louis Saha has hailed the Red Devils for signing Hojlund this summer ahead of Brighton striker Evan Ferguson.
Speaking to Paddy Power, Saha said: “Rasmus Hojlund was the right target for Manchester United over Ferguson.”
“Both players are tremendous with exciting potential but [Hojlund] can occupy the two central defenders and maybe even free up space because of his speed and strength. It will be very interesting to see.”
