The manager of Manchester United, Ralf Rangnick has confirmed that he would serve as the consultant of the club for two years after the 2021-2022 season and also serve as the head coach of the Austria national team.

Recall that when Manchester United announced the German tactician as the interim manager of the club in November 2021, the club made it clear that Ralf Rangnick would serve as the interim coach of the club until the end of the 2021-2022 season. After that, he would pick up a consultancy role at the club for two years.

However, due to the poor run of form Manchester United exhibited under the reign of Ralf Rangnick, there were doubts that Manchester United would not stick to the earlier arrangement.

Note that Rangnick was brought to Old Trafford in an interim capacity to help Manchester United qualify for at least the 2022-2023 UEFA Champions League campaign. But has failed to achieve that. The club are currently sitting on the 6th spot with 55 points in 35 games after losing 10 league games, drawing 10, and winning just 15 league games.

Despite such a poor run, Manchester United are determined to keep the initial deal they had with coach Ralf Rangnick. This means that the German tactician would work alongside the club’s incoming coach, Erik ten Hag.

Ten Hag will commence his reign at Manchester United immediately after the 2021-2022 season. While Rangnick would move up the ladder in an advisory role.

After Manchester United drew 1-1 with Chelsea on Thursday, April 28, 2022, Rangnick told reporters that the club has defined his role and he is willing to stay back to execute it.

While acknowledging that he has not spoken with the club’s incoming coach, Erik ten Hag, the German coach noted how excited he is to start working as the club’s consultant.

“What I can tell you and confirm is I will definitely continue with my consultancy role at the end of the season and for the next two years,” Ralf Rangnick told Sky Sports on Thursday.

“I’m very much looking forward to it. We haven’t spoken, Erik and myself, we’ve spoken with the board about the contract and the profile of the job, the content of the consultancy role.

“That’s why I can confirm I will continue at the end of the season.”

Ralf Rangnick has confirmed that he is the new head coach of the Austria national team. He will serve as the coach of the country and also as the consultant of Manchester United until 2024.

Reports confirmed that the Austrian FA (OFB) held an executive committee meeting on Friday, April 29, 2022, to approve the appointment of Rangick as the head coach of the country.

Afterward, the Austrian FA announced the German tactician as the head coach of the country. Rangnick will commence his duties as the country’s head coach after the 2021-2022 season.

“I will take over as national team manager of Austria at the end of the season, but will continue my consultancy with Manchester United”, Rangnick announced on Friday.

Rangnick was quoted by the Austrian FA website as saying: “It’s an honour for me to take on the role of team boss. I’m particularly excited about the prospect of contesting the European Championships in Germany with a young team hungry for success.”

As it stands, Rangnick is the direct successor to coach Franco Foda who resigned earlier in the year after he failed to qualify Austria for the forthcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

The 63-year-old German coach is not new to Austrian football; he has spent years as director of football for an Austrian club Red Bull Salzburg.

what is the deal between Rangnick and Austria?

According to an announcement from the Austrian FA, coach Ralf Rangnick would serve as the head coach of the Austria national team until 2024.

If the 63-year-old German tactician can qualify the country for the 2024 European Championship (Euro 2024), the Austrian FA would extend his contract for another two years.
