The manager of Manchester United, Ralf Rangnick said the 4-2 victory his team recorded over Leeds United on Sunday, February 20, 2022, is a perfect response to the speculations that the club’s dressing room is in crisis.

On the said date, coach Ralf Rangnick led Manchester United to Elland Road for a Premier League game against Leeds United. The game was the club’s first league match since reports emerged that the club’s dressing room is in crisis.

Days before the league game reports claimed that Cristiano Ronaldo wanted to be the captain of the club, and coach Ralf Rangnick was ready to name him the club’s captain.

This reportedly divided the dressing room because many were reportedly supporting Ronaldo to be the club’s captain while others were siding Harry Maguire to continue as the club’s captain.

But before the league game, Maguire came out to say there was no power tussle between him and Cristiano Ronaldo contrary to speculations.

Also, coach Ralf Rangnick told reporters ahead of the game that there was no power tussle in the dressing room and that Harry Maguire would continue as the captain of the club for the rest of the season.

The purported crisis in the club’s dressing was not visible during the Premier League game as Manchester United went on to defeat Leeds United 4-2 away from home.

This means that Manchester United have scored a whopping 9 goals against Leeds United in two Premier League games this season which is the highest in the history between the two teams.

Ralf Rangnick reacts to the 4-2 victory over Leeds United

After the 4-2 victory over Leeds United, Manchester United interim coach, Ralf Rangnick noted that he and his players knew how important the game was, adding that it was the best reply to all the false news against the club.

“We knew that it was an important win today,” interim boss Rangnick said.

“It was similar to the one against West Ham. That was similarly emotional at the end with the last-second goal. But today it was more important, not only that we won the game but the way that we reacted after conceding the equalizer.

“That was the best possible answer the team could give. It was perfect about maturity, unity, and the best reply that they could give to some articles last week that there was some disruption in the locker room.

“I think a game like this one today you can only win as a team and with the mentality of a team and this was, apart from the three points, the most important thing.”

Manchester United have taken 138 corner kicks before the one against Leeds United in the 33rd minute, without converting any of them.

But the club’s captain, Harry Maguire who has been under heavy criticism over his performance was at the right place to convert the club’s 139th corner kick.

After the game, Maguire said: “I’m embarrassed by the stat. I’m a big part of that set-play routine and trying to score from corners.

“But as a team, we’ve been nowhere near good enough. If we scored more from set-pieces, we’d be higher up the table.”

During the Premier League game between Manchester United and Leeds United, the fans of the home team threw objects at United’s players.

One of the objects hit United’s teenager Anthony Elanga when United’s players were celebrating Fred’s goal.

While reacting to the incident, coach Rangnick said: “As far as I know, there is some investigation going on from Leeds United. I don’t think that anything happened in the end. Anthony Elanga looked well and he was happy about scoring his goal.

“Obviously things like that should not happen and I think even more so this game. The atmosphere was great.

“At times we had to cool down things on the pitch a little bit but this is what I did when I walked onto the pitch (during a late melee). I didn’t want anything to happen – no yellow or red cards.

“In moments like this, I think it’s important to try and cool things down.”
