Manchester City has continued their foothold on the second spot of the English Premier League by trashing Brighton 5-0 at home, with Raheem Sterling netting a hattrick.
With the Citizens yet to know their Champions League fate for the next two seasons, they continued from where they stopped against Newcastle by defeating the Seagulls with the same scoreline away from home.
Sterling’s hat-trick was part of the capitulation. The English winger has scored 17 league goals to overtake Sadio Mane of Liverpool, who is on joint 16 goals with his teammate, Sergio Aguero.
Recall that City had lost their three previous away games, with the last coming against Southampton at St. Mary’s. However, in this game, they never looked like suffering another slip-up on their return to the south coast.
Sterling was a menace throughout the encounter as he inflicted most of the damage on a Brighton team that never came into the contest.
