Manchester City has been contacted by Chelsea regarding a possible transfer of England forward Raheem Sterling.

Sterling, who cost £49 million to acquire from Liverpool in 2015 and has 131 goals in 339 games, is a top target for Todd Boehly, the new owner of the Blues.

Chelsea have not made an official offer yet for the 27-year-old, but one is being anticipated.

With one year left on his deal, Sterling is reportedly considering his alternatives.

With 77 England caps, Sterling has never hidden his desire to play as frequently as possible and be a key member of a squad that contends for major championships.

He might be the Blues’ first significant acquisition since being acquired by a group led by Boehly in May.

After permitting Romelu Lukaku, Belgian striker, to return to Inter Milan on a season-long loan, Chelsea is looking to strengthen its striking lineup.

In addition to scoring the 150th goal of his club career, Sterling accomplished the noteworthy achievement in his 323rd outing for City.

The 27-year-old has so far scored 88 Premier League goals for City, 24 Champions League goals, eight FA Cup goals, six League Cup goals, and one Community Shield goal.

Thanks to his 24 goals in the Champions League, he is now tied in second place with Paul Scholes among English players in terms of goals scored in the competition’s history. Only 37-year-old Wayne Rooney has more.

To climb up the standings, he needs to score six more goals. Fred Tilson and Billy Gillespie, who both have 132 goals to their names, are tied in the ninth position and are six goals ahead of him.

In August 2015, on his fourth outing for City, Sterling scored his first goal by volleying home Bacary Sagna’s cross in a 2-0 victory over Watford. Two months later, when Manuel Pellegrini’s team beat Bournemouth 5-1, Sterling scored his first career hat-trick.

The England international has scored frequently for City throughout his career, but under Pep Guardiola, that aspect of his game has reached new heights.

No player on the current City’s roster has scored more goals than Raheem Sterling, who has scored more than 20 goals in three of the last four seasons, including a career-high 31 in 2019–20 before reaching 100 total goals at City in sky blue the following season.

What benefits would Sterling offer Chelsea?

Simply put, some improved attacking capability. Since he arrived at Liverpool as a 17-year-old, Sterling has been a revelation. However, during the past decade, and particularly while working with Guardiola, Sterling has improved his whole game and is now capable of scoring goals just for fun.

Despite playing in significantly less games than he normally would have, he scored 13 league goals last season.

He scored an incredible 20 Premier League goals in the 2019–2020 campaign. Additionally, he also recorded a more than acceptable 17 the year before that.

Timo Werner has shown to be fairly unreliable when it comes to finding the back of the net, so this is significant for Tuchel.

In the previous campaign, the German only had four successful strikes. A dismal performance that put too much on the midfielders and even the defenders to provide goals.

So with Sterling coming to Chelsea, the issue of lack of goals from the Blues forward will be reduced as the Englishman has been prolific in terms of goalscoring.
