The winger’s spectacular 20-yard curling effort against Sporting in the first leg of the Champions League last 16 tie was his 127th goal since joining the Club in July 2015, vaulting him past Alec Herd into outright 10th position in the rankings.

Sterling accomplished the mark in his 323rd appearance for City, and it was also his 150th club goal.

To date, the 27-year-old has scored 88 Premier League goals, 24 Champions League goals, eight FA Cup goals, six League Cup goals, and one Community Shield goal for City.

Indeed, with 24 Champions League goals, he is now tied with Paul Scholes for the most goals scored by an Englishman in the competition’s history.

Only Wayne Rooney (30) has a higher total.

He needs six more goals to move up the ranks, since Fred Tilson and Billy Gillespie are tied for ninth place with 132 goals each.

Sterling scored his first goal in City colours in his fourth appearance, converting Bacary Sagna’s cross on the volley in a 2-0 victory over Watford in August 2015, and he went on to score his first professional hat-trick two months later in a 5-1 thrashing of Bournemouth.

The England international has scored consistently during his City career, but Pep Guardiola has elevated that aspect of his game to new heights.

Sterling has scored more than 20 goals in three of the last four seasons, including a career-high 31 in 2019-20 before exceeding 100 in sky blue the following season, and no other member of the present club has scored more than the No.7.

Every member of staff at Manchester City would like to congratulate Raheem on reaching another significant milestone in his career.
