Raheem Sterling came out to demand clarity about why he didn’t make the Chelsea squad in the Premier League opener after Enzo Maresca failed to start the English star against Manchester City.

The player representatives released a statement asking why Enzo Maresca failed to get the player into the starting line-up, saying, “Raheem Sterling is contracted to Chelsea Football Club for the next three years.”

“He returned to England two weeks early to conduct individual training and has had a positive pre-season under the new coach, with whom he has developed a good working relationship.”

“He is committed, as ever, to delivering at the highest level for Chelsea FC and the fans, whom he holds in high regard, and given his inclusion in official club pre-match material this week, our expectation was that Raheem would be involved in this weekend’s fixture in some capacity.”

“As a camp, we have always had positive dialogue with and assurance from Chelsea FC in relation to Raheem’s future at the club, so we look forward to gaining clarity on the situation. Until then, we will continue to support Raheem’s desire to start the new season positively.”

According to different sources, Chelsea are fully backing the manager, Enzo Maresca, over dropping Raheem Sterling from the starting XI.

Cole Palmer, Christopher Nkunku, and Nicolas Jackson were the front three for Chelsea in the match against Manchester City.

This came as a shock to the Chelsea winger, who was training excessively and participated well in the pre-season in a bid to win a place in the Enzo Maresca team.

Sterling is one of the highest-paid players in the Chelsea squad. He left Manchester City to Chelsea for a transfer fee worth £44 million.
