Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich, having bemoaned racism in the English topflight league, has put into writing as regards the release of funds that will mark out racism in his club, Chelsea, following the drama of racial abuse of Premier League players including James Reece last week.

The Blues’s center-back was racially abused on Instagram, after Manchester United’s duo, Anthony Martial and Axel Tuanzebe were discriminated against during a tie with Sheffield United in which they were defeated, 2-1 it ended

In the same week, West Brom’s Romaine Sawyers and Marcus Rashford were abused on two different occasions entirely, which brought about the alarming rate at which footballers have been discriminated against in the English topflight.

But the Chelsea owner berated the act, expressing his shock, and later promised to fight it

“I am appalled by the racist abuse targeted at Reece (James) on social media,” Abramovich said through a statement

“Racism has no place in our club nor our society. Our club is committed to fighting racism, anti-Semitism, and all forms of discrimination,” he added

“We cannot allow this to continue unchecked. I have therefore directed the board to further increase the club’s efforts in this area and I will personally direct more funds towards this important work.”

Abramovich tasked the West London side to do more in the quest to fight racial discrimination globally.
