A new report reveals the extent of the Dutch player Quincy Promes brutal living conditions in the UAE prison.
Promes, who has played for the likes of Ajax and La Liga giant Sevilla in his football career, is currently serving a six-year jail sentence for his involvement in smuggling 1,363 kg of cocaine, whose value is around £65 million.
The six-year jail sentence came a few months after the Dutch man was given an 18-month sentence for stabbing his cousin on the knee at a family party.
Having been far from legal proceedings and was living in Russia, the 32-year-old was stopped at the border and was barred from traveling back to Russia.

Promes stays in a six-person cell and sleeps in a double bunk bed with up to 20 prisoners who sleep on the floor of the cell.
He is only allowed to exercise three times a week. It is difficult for the player to keep fit due to the fact that there will be no exercise equipment while he is serving his sentence.
In terms of what to eat, the prison doesn’t serve food or vegetables. Promes is allowed to watch TV outside the prison during the day alongside other prisoners who are serving their sentences.
Horrible crimes like raping young men are seen as everyday occurrences in prison. Detainees are exposed to freezing, cold, and noisy environment due to strong air conditioners.
Prisoners in this jail are compelled to always shave their heads, starting from when they enter the prison.
Prisoners will be punished if they are found keeping their hairs. There are also concerns about whether the prisoners are allowed to welcome visitors.
Promes requested extradition to Russia to avoid serving a prison sentence in his home country, the Netherlands. Meanwhile, Russia had requested that Promes get sent home to the Netherlands for suspected tax fraud committed by the player.
What Promes’s Lawyer Robert Malewicz Said About the Player Situation
The lawyer previously revealed the situation of Promes via a statement, saying, “We point out that an independent judge in Dubai will now decide on the Dutch request for extradition. In general, extradition proceedings can take quite some time and involve many formal steps and requirements.”
“This is also completely common in the Netherlands. The outcome and duration of the extradition procedure cannot be predicted at this time.”
