The oldest cup competition in the world keeps getting hotter as the English FA Cup is now in its quarter final stages with some enthralling matches in view.

Matches to expect in the next round of the English FA Cup

Manchester City’s former Captain and defender Vincent Kompany would take Burnley down to his former ground where he was largely successful to battle the Cityzens.

How the 5th round played out

After picking up a remarkable victory on Wednesday night, Manchester United booked their place into the next round and they would face Fulham in the quarter final of the FA Cup.

The Seagulls tutored by Roberto De Zerbi have a date with League two side Grimsby Town who did the miracle defeating Premier League side Southampton.

Although Southampton are currently rock bottom on the Premier League table, one would hardly predict that it would be easy for Grimsby Town to secure a win.

Grimsby Town got the better of the saints after two nicely dispatched penalties by Gavin Holohan before Duje Caleta-Car scored a goal for the Saints who are having an embarrassing season by their standards.

Sheffield United also did an unthinkable job against toothless Tottenham Hotspur as they defeated the North London side by 1-0 at Bramall lane.

Iliman Ndiaye’s strike on the seventy-ninth (79th) minute was enough to give The Blades the victory against The Lilywhites.

Manchester United defeated David Moyes’s West Ham United in Fergie time by 3-1 at Old Trafford after Benrahma took the Hammers ahead early on in the second half.

However, Alejandro Garnacho and Fred had other ideas as they guided Manchester United to a victory in the FA Cup few days after they lifted the Carabao Cup.

Burnley defeated Fleetwood Town late on after they were reduced to 10-men courtesy a goal from Conor Roberts on the 90th minute.

On Tuesday, Pep Guardiola led his Manchester City side to defeat Bristol City by 3-0 at Ashton Gate to advance to the quarter finals of the FA Cup.

Phil Foden delivered on the night with a brace for the Cityzens and Belgian midfielder Kevin De Bruyne smashed an audacious shot on the eighty-first (81st) minute.

Also on Tuesday, Blackburn Rovers broke the spine of the Foxes as they defeated Brendan Roger’s men at the King Power Stadium by a shocking 2-1 victory.

Kelechi Iheanacho’s goal could only provide consolation to the hearts of the Leicester faithfuls as goals from Tyrhys Dolan and Sammie Szmodics gave Blackburn the win.

For Roberto De Zerbi’s Brighton, they defeated Stoke at the Bet 365 stadium by a lone goal from Ireland forward Evan Ferguson.

At the Craven Cottage, Fulham made The Peakocks to buckle and they hammered them decisively through goals from Joao Palhinha and Manor Solomon.
