The 29-year-old Brazilian football star is trying to help his country qualify for the Qatar 2022 World Cup. His country is currently topping the qualification table with 28 points in 10 games.
Neymar is not having the best of time with Brazil ahead of Qatar 2022 World Cup
Neymar missed Brazil’s World Cup qualification match against Venezuela on October 8, 2021, because he was serving a one-game suspension. In his absence, Brazil beat Venezuela 3-1 to remain top of the 10-team qualification table.
He featured in Brazil’s 0-0 draw with Columbia on Sunday, October 10, 2021. During the game, the Paris Saint Germain talisman made 17 missed passes and lost possession 30 times.
After the Qatar 2022 World Cup qualification game, the coach of Brazil Tite was asked why Neymar performed so poorly in the game, the coach said the PSG star was “well marked” in the game.
“He is an exceptional player because he makes exceptional plays, he does it exceptionally and not ordinarily,” the coach noted. “He is a special player, we know it. And he was also well marked, sometimes by two players.”
Neymar who has represented Brazil in two different World Cups is always criticized by Brazilian football fans because they believe he has the potential to do better for the country.
They believe that Neymar has made himself too prone to injuries and has not shown enough commitment to improving his football skills.
The fact that Neymar has helped Brazil to win one Confederations Cup (2013), one Olympics Medal (2016 Rio Olympics), and Copa America Silver (2021), Brazilain fans are still very critical of his performance for the national team.
After Brazil played a 0-0 draw with Columbia on Sunday, a very upset Neymar told the press that he didn’t know what to do to gain the respect of the Brazilian football fans.
“I don’t know what else I need to do with this shirt for people to respect Neymar,” he said.
Recall that Neymar could not play for the national team in the 2019 Copa America because he was injured. In his absence, Brazil went on to win the tournament. The country ended up losing the final to Argentina in 2021 in his presence.
This instance has made most fans of the national team see Neymar as a problem in the team instead of an asset.
