The Agent of Veteran defender Thiago Silva has opened up about his Chelsea move, revealing that the 35-year-old received a late contract extension from PSG.

Thiago Silva, Last week, completed a move from PSG to the Premier League, signing a one year deal, with a 12-month extension option with Chelsea.

The 35-year-old called quit on his eight-year stay at the Paris-based club, after the French Champions refused to offer him a contract renewal.

However, while speaking to L’Equipe Silva’s agent Paulo Tonietto, reveals that following Paris Saint-Germain’s Champions League slump to Bayern Munich, the French champions changed their mind and offered a contract extension to the Brazilian defender after he had already agreed to terms with Chelsea.

Tonietto said: “He was not hoping any longer because Leonardo told him two months ago that he did not want to extend it,”

Tonietto said. “But last Tuesday Leonardo called Thiago and raised the possibility that he would have another year left. Thiago was already agreed with Chelsea, he couldn’t go back. When you make such a proposal, you have to be convinced of it.

A sporting director who tells a player he doesn’t want him anymore, and two months more late wants to extend it, how to take that?”

“Thiago didn’t see how he could have accepted the proposal of Leonardo saw what he had told him two months earlier,” Tonietto said. “It would have been humiliating.”

Thiago Silva’s wife, Isabelle Silva, also revealed that it was a shame how Paris Saint-Germain let the veteran defender go.

Speaking to Le Parisien, she said: “We are not sad. We never thought that Thiago’s career had to end there. It’s a shame that Paris decided to let him go.

But football is like that when you are no longer part of the team’s plans. You have to leave,” Silva said.

“But we are French, and we will always be Parisians. We lived here for eight years. These moments will remain forever etched in our memories. Every day here has been very special, unique, but that doesn’t mean we leave sad.”

She later claimed that Thiago Silva could make a sensational PSG return someday.

“Nothing is impossible. Why not come back one day? When we finish the contract at Chelsea and if he wants to join, as a player, in the staff or in another role

“It is not for me to decide on this kind of thing. We must let time pass, and we will see what will happen when the time comes,” She added.
