Premier League: Sheffield United Wallops Chelsea 3-0

Sheffield United

The Champions League quest of Chelsea may have suffered a massive blow after being walloped 3-0 by Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.

The loss gives Manchester United, who are just two points behind the Blues to take their position on the log. The Red Devils will be welcoming in-form Southampton to the Old Trafford on Monday.

Meanwhile, the win also increased Sheffield United’s chance of securing a Europa League spot as they are currently sixth on the log.

David McGoldrick joined the Blades on a free transfer from Ipswich Town in 2018

With the North London derby coming up, the Blades are likely to remain in the position for the time being with Arsenal leading Tottenham Hotspurs by just a point in 8th and 10th positions respectively. Burnley took over the 9th position from Spurs courtesy of a 1-1 draw with Liverpool.

David McGoldrick had a good game against the blues registering a brace while Oli McGoldrick scored between his goals to put the West London club to the swords.

The defeat, therefore, leaves Chelsea on 60 points on the third position with Leicester at 59 points in fourth, while Manchester United is on 58 points with a game in hand.

Sheffield United Vs. Chelsea highlight

McGoldrick’ scored his first Premier League goal to open the goals account after pouncing after Kepa Arrizabalaga’s brilliant save from a deflected McBurnie shot in the 18th minute.

Chelsea’s leaky defence was again their nemesis throughout. The hosts took advantage of that again to double their lead.

Sheffield celebrates third goal against Chelsea at Bramall Lane

Enda Stevens crossed to a completely unmarked McBurnie in the six-yard box to power home a simple header.

McGoldrick completed the route when a dreadful defensive mix-up gave him the chance to score a brace midway through the second half. Toni Rudiger found it hard to kick the ball out but got his feet in a muddle. He was only able to clip the ball into the air and McGoldrick catches up with it to rattle it past Kepa and in.

Will Chris Wilder be nominated for the manager of the year?

Despite being the highest-scoring away team in the Premier League before this match, which includes three at Crystal Palace in midweek, Chelsea looked like a team not ready to score.

Chris Wilder, who will undoubtedly be one of the nominated managers of the year has continued to draw many plaudits this season for his team’s organization and team ethic.
