Portuguese Winger Jota Joins Al-Ittihad From Celtic

Portuguese winger Jota has joined Saudi Arabian side Al-Ittihad from Celtic, for a fee of about £25 million.

The 24-year-old has put pen-to-paper on a three-year deal with the club, following a medical conducted in Jeddah, which he passed successfully.

João Pedro Neves Filipe, popularly known as Jota penned a lucrative deal with Al-Ittihad, which will see him earn above £10 million yearly, excluding tax.

The deal was brokered by Portuguese mega agent Jorge Mendes and the youngster is set to join Karim Benzema and N’Golo Kante at the club.

In a video shared by Al-Ittihad concerning his arrival, a computer-generated representation of Nuno Espirito Santo was seen buzzing on his arrival.

The video showed Santo laying down several playing cards that included Jota’s image alongside Karim Benzema and N’Golo Kante.

The animated depiction of the Portuguese star then said afterwards: “We want to rule the world.”

Announcing his arrival to Al-Ittihad, the Saudi Pro League defending champions put out a statement which reads: 

“Ittihad Club has officially announced the signing of Portuguese player Jota Filipe from Scottish club Celtic. The term of the contract is three years.

They added: “The chairman (Mr Anmar Abdullah Alhailee) expressed his well-wishes to the player, hoping for his success in fulfilling the aspirations of all Ittihad’s fans and supporters.”

Celtic also shared a brief statement where they confirmed the Portuguese departure from the club.

They wrote: “We can confirm that Jota has joined Al-Ittihad on a permanent transfer. Everyone at #CelticFC thanks Jota for his contribution to the club, and wishes him good luck in his future career.”

Jota joined Celtic last summer permanently from Benfica for £7 million last summer, after a successful season on loan at the Glasgow-based side.
