Portugal FA reveals they will present evidence to FIFA that Cristiano Ronaldo got their opening goal against Uruguay at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Portugal sealed a straight ticket to the World Cup round of 16 after a dramatic 2-0 victory over Uruguay.

Meanwhile, there has been a controversy surrounding Portugal’s opening goal against Uruguay in their second group clash that took place yesterday, November 29.

Ronaldo’s former United teammate Bruno Fernandes made a brilliant cross toward the five-time ballon d’Or holder.

The 37-year-old rose to head in Bruno Fernandes’ 54th-minute wonderful cross fired from the left corner as the ball flew into the net as if it had contact with Ronaldo’s head.

Cristiano Ronaldo wheeled off to gladly celebrate “his goal” and cheered Fernandes for his “fine assist” after giving his nation the lead against Uruguay in their second group-stage match.

Meanwhile, the cross initially looked as though Ronaldo made a head contact to send the ball inside Uruguay’s net, but after a close observation, FIFA awarded the goal to Bruno Fernandes.

The goal was awarded to Ronaldo’s former Manchester United team-mate Fernandes as Portugal claimed a second successive Group H win with six points that qualified them for the round of 16.

Numerous replays to determine if Ronaldo had managed the smallest of touches to send home the midfielder’s cross were observed before FIFA awarded it to Bruno.

However, Portugal’s FA reportedly revealed that Cristiano Ronaldo scored the opening goal of their 2-0 victory over Uruguay.

Portugal FA says the evidence for their claim which confirms Ronaldo got the goal instead of Bruno Fernandes will be presented to FIFA soon.

Following the revelation of the Spanish show El Chiringuito TV, the Portuguese FA will be submitting evidence to confirm Ronaldo made contact with the ball and that the goal should have been awarded to him.

The matter has generated many controversies with many supporting that the former Real Madrid star touched the ball after FIFA revealed he didn’t make contact with the ball.

With FIFA now set to decide whether it was Ronaldo or Fernandes’ goal following Portugal FA’s intervention, a reversal of the initial FIFA decision is likely to happen.

Bruno Fernandes, however, insisted after the match that it didn’t matter who scored the goal as he is glad they qualified into the knock-out stages of the World Cup tournament in Qatar.

The Manchester United midfielder Fernandes also admitted that he made the cross with the aim to pass it across to Ronaldo and he believed Ronaldo touched the ball.

Fernandes said: ”I don’t think it really matters who scored the goal at this point,”

”The feeling I had at the time was that Cristiano touched the ball. I was passing the ball to him.

”But the important thing was that we won tonight against a very tough opponent.
”The importance of us being first in the group includes us winning the next game, which would allow us to come out of the group undefeated. That is what we want.”

Cristiano Ronaldo is yet to make any comment on this but his celebration after the goal suggested that he made a contact with the ball.

While we await FIFA’s official reaction to Portugal FA’s petition about the controversial goal, Portugal will face South Korea in their final group-stage match on Friday, the 2nd of December.

The match will take place at Education City Stadium with kickoff scheduled for 16:00 BST.
