Paris Saint Germain manager, Mauricio Pochettino said it will be a dream come true if he steers the managerial wheel in Real Madrid.
The newly appointed coach got to manage the French giants after 13 months at which his former owner, Tottenham relieved the Argentine of his duties- after leading Spurs to their maiden UEFA Champions League final in the 2018/19 campaign.
In tandem, the newly appointed Chelsea coach, Thomas Tuchel parted company with PSG for the former Southampton boss.
However, Pochettino has been admired by Los Blancos in time past- after Zinende Zidane resigned in 2018-only for the former PSG player to turn the offer down obliging to the contract he had with Tottenham. But he still wishes to spend his managerial stint at Santiago Bernabeu.
He narrated how the Spanish giant was looking for his signature as a player but due to some reasons, it didn’t materialize.
“As a player, I had the opportunity to sign for Madrid but for some reason it didn’t happen,” Pochettino said in an interview
Pochenttino narrated how he was being told the culture and the mentality that dwells amid Real Madrid
“When I first joined Espanyol in 1994, with Camacho, he always told me about the culture, the mentality, what it meant to be part of a family like Real Madrid. His words always stayed with me. Then later on, the same happened when I chatted to Alfredo di Stéfano. As I got older, Camacho’s influence really started sinking in. He represented the values of Madrid and the soul of the club.” he narrated
He further said that coaching the Spanish based side is one of his objectives since he didn’t have the chance to play for the club
“It was always my objective to one day be able to play for Real Madrid and when you don’t realize a dream, you say, ‘Well, look, one day I’d like to coach Real Madrid – after Espanyol. And why not one day coach Argentina, because I was born with the Argentinean flag on my chest. Those are the two things in football that I would say I would like to achieve’,” Pochettino accentuated.
However, the job of Madrid might be dependent on his PSG managerial journey- as he will hoping to turn things around at Parc des Princes till June 2022 when his contract lapses.
