The manager of Manchester City Pep Guardiola has threatened to call the talisman of FC Barcelona, Lionel Messi so that the Spanish club can face Bayern Munich in a battle for a 7th title.

On Thursday, February 11, Bayern Munich equaled the record of FC Barcelona to become the second club in Europe to win 6 major titles in a row in a calendar year. The German club achieved the feat after defeating Tigres 1-0 in the 2020 FIFA Club World Cup held in Qatar.

FC Barcelona set the record in 2009 under the tutelage of coach Pep Guardiola. Lionel Messi was very instrumental in ensuring that the Spanish coach achieved the rare feat.

Pep Guardiola almost achieved the same feat in 2013 when he was the coach of Bayern Munich. The 50-year-old coach joined Bayern in a season in which the club’s former coach Jupp Heynckes had already won three titles. Guardiola won Club World Cup and UEFA Super Cup but failed to win DFL-Supercup to make it six.

Even though he failed to win the sextuples at Bayern Munich before he left for Manchester City, Pep Guardiola has been enjoying the bragging right of being the only coach in the world to win sextuples for a club.

He has now been joined by Bayern Munich coach Hansi Flick. The 55-year-old German coach helped Bayern Munich to win the sextuples in less than 15 months since he was appointed the coach of Bayern Munich.

In the congratulatory message of the Spanish coach, Pep Guardiola jokingly invited Bayern Munich and FC Barcelona to contest for a 7th title.

Guardiola said: “We are so proud, I am so proud, a big congratulations for everyone, especially Hansi [Flick], the players and the backroom staff for this amazing thing.

“But I would like to say to Hansi that you are the second team to win the six titles in a row!

“Before you, there was another team, Barcelona… so maybe I can call Messi and company and we can play for the seventh title? Tell me when and where and we will be there!”

Bayern Munich’s official Twitter handle shared the video on Twitter. While FC Barcelona are yet to react to the challenge from their former coach, Pep Guardiola.
