Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola believes Rodri is the best midfielder in Europe after his impressive performance against Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League on September 19, 2023.
The reigning Champions of the Champions League were 1-0 against the Serbian team in the first half at Etihad; they came back from behind to make it 3-1, with Rodri stepping up the game.
The Spanish midfielder scored the final goal for Manchester City to avoid a defeat against the less powerful team.

In addition, his performance prompted Pep Guardiola to sing praises for the midfielder. Guardiola said, “Right now, yeah. He is the best.
“Hopefully he can be better; he has a good mentality and things to improve, but he’s an extraordinary holding midfielder.
“We were lucky the club signed this player, and when he arrived, he wasn’t this type of player.
“Of course he played a large number of games, and now he’s one of the captains of the team.
“He’s a fantastic holding midfielder. He’s a top-class player; not just that, defensively, offensively, he has composure, he reads the spaces, and he knows exactly when the men are free.”
Since joining Manchester City, Rodri has been performing at the highest level.
He scored an important goal against Inter Milan in the Champions League final, where he was also awarded man of the match.
