Manchester United midfielder, Bruno Fernandes says he and Paul Pogba are having a good relationship on and off the pitch contrary to the belief of some critics. The Portugal international described the France international as a “funny guy” who always likes to joke.

Bruno Fernandes joined Paul Pogba at Manchester United on January 29, 2020, from Sporting Lisbon for a transfer fee worth about €55 million. During that period, Pogba was out with an injury that did not allow them to play together until the tail end of the 2019-2020 season.

Since Fernandes became an instant hit at the club, the attention of some United’s fans has been taken away from Pogba who was seen by some critics as a less committed player. With the inconsistency of Pogba, the 26-year-old Portuguese midfielder established himself as the most important player at Manchester United before last season ended.

Yet, football pundits believe that Manchester United will achieve so much if the coach of the club, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer can find a way to use the two midfielders together. The coach has done so a couple of times this season which did not work as perfectly as expected.

Despite that, Fernandes believes that Pogba who is a FIFA World Cup winner has a lot to teach him while the Frenchman also has a lot to learn from him.

“We have a good relationship, of course,” Fernandes told Sky Sports. “We both speak Italian so most of the time we speak Italian. I have a good relationship with him on and off the pitch.

“He’s a funny guy, he always wants to joke. I know him from Italy already but now I have the chance to be in a team with a World Cup winner.

“It’s always a pleasure being in a team with him because I can learn a lot from him, and he can learn a lot from me. Together we can do great things.”

Paul Pogba is not angry with Manchester United, Bruno Fernandes says

The fact that Solskjaer is not getting enough from the pairing of the two midfielders, the tactician has settled more for rotating the squad which has become more necessary due to the tight schedule of the club this season.

However, Pogba has seen more of the bench than any other A-list superstar at the club which usually sparks speculations related to the future of the Frenchman at the club.

“Paul wants to play, he wants to be in the first XI, that is no different to any player – they all want to be in the first XI,” Fernandes said.

“Of course Paul is an amazing player who has done a lot of great things in the past few years. The way he came in against Paris Saint-Germain, against Newcastle, was perfect for the team.

“A lot of people may think Paul is angry on the bench and that he will do nothing when he comes on because he is angry, but he comes in with the right motivation, as we saw with his assist in Paris.

“He was there, he was fighting, holding the ball in the corner for us, he did a really good job. Maybe some people think he was angry because he wanted to play and that he wants to leave the club. Everyone knows the qualities Paul has, he is doing very well.
