Paris Saint Germain have confirmed the signing of Lucas Hernandez from Bayern Munich for a reported fee of £34 million.

Hernandez has put pen-to-paper on a five-year deal with the Parisians, meaning he will remain with the club until 2027.

The contract of the 27-year-old at Bayern Munich was set to end in the summer of 2024 and he was unwilling to pen a new deal with the Bavarians.

Confirming his arrival to the French capital, Paris Saint Germain released a statement which reads:

“Paris Saint-Germain is delighted to announce the signing of Lucas Hernández. The French international defender, who will wear the number 21, has signed a five-year contract with the Club”.

Paris Saint Germain apparently didn’t meet the asking price of Bayern Munich for Lucas Hernandez, however, the good relationship between both clubs allowed the deal to pull through.

The 27-year-old helped the Bavarians win the treble in his first year at the club, a treble triumph that included a victory against PSG in the final of the UEFA Champions League three years ago.

Hernandez made 107 appearances for the Munich based club, scoring 2 goals and providing 8 assists in all competitions.

Speaking concerning his arrival to Paris, the former Atletico Madrid defender expressed how “happy” he was to join Paris Saint Germain.

Lucas Hernandez said: “I’m really excited, I’ve been waiting to join PSG for a long time, and it’s finally happened. It’s a very special day for me and I’m very happy to be here”.

He was an important member of France’s 2018 FIFA World Cup winning side that achieved glory in Russia.

The Frenchman was also selected for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, but a knee injury sustained in Les Blues 4-1 victory over Australia ended his World Cup outing.

Didier Deschamps’ side made it to the final of the tournament, but they were defeated by Argentina via penalties.

Injury blighted Lucas Hernandez’s season last term as he made only 11 appearances, scoring 1 goal and providing 1 assist in all competitions.

Bayern Munich are also closing in on his replacement, with the deal for Napoli’s Kim Min-jae set to be completed soon.

The Parisians are having a busy summer with lots of signings already made

Paris Saint Germain are having a busy window this summer, with Hernandez being the club’s fifth signing so far.

The French capital based club have already signed Milan Skriniar, Manuel Ugarte, Marco Asensio and Lee Kang-In, with more additions still expected to be made.

PSG also announced the appointment of Luis Enrique as manager on a two-year deal on the 5th of July, 2023.

The Spaniard has replaced Christophe Galtier, who managed the club for just one season, winning the Ligue 1 and Trophée des Champions.

Reports suggest that the arrival of Lucas Hernandez might not be welcomed whole-heartedly by PSG ultras, as they have previously maintained that he is not welcomed at the club due to his links to their fierce rivals Marseille.

Hernandez was born in Marseille and his dad Jean-Francois played for Olympique Marseille during the 90s.

The France International was also accused of talking about his ties with Marseille after Bayern Munich defeated Paris Saint Germain to win the Champions League in 2020.
