Paris Saint-Germain Chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi has responded to Lionel Messi’s claims that he was the only Argentine player to win the World Cup and was not recognized by the Football Club.
Nasser Al-Khelaifi said, “As everyone saw, because we even published a video, we celebrated Messi in training, and we also celebrated him in private.
“But with respect, we are a French club. It was, of course, sensitive to celebrate at the stadium. We must respect the country he defeated, his teammates on the France team, and our supporters too.”
It is unlikely whether Lionel Messi will react to the statement or not. The Argentine had moved on from his issues at Paris Saint-Germain.
While he was at Paris Saint-Germain, Argentina defeated France in a penalty shootout to lift the World Cup in 2022.
Messi admitted he was happy at Paris Saint-Germain but doesn’t seem good with the club’s treatment after the World Cup.
“It was understandable,” he said. “We were in a situation where we were world champions, and it was our fault that they weren’t champions once again.”
The Argentine said, “I was the only player that wasn’t recognized by his club compared to the other 25 Argentinian players.”
Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe performed extremely well in the FIFA World Cup final, scoring five goals in total.
This didn’t sit well with the PSG ultras, who felt Lionel Messi had betrayed them.
However, due to his treatment at Paris Saint-Germain, Messi renounced his contract to accept a move to the Major Soccer League, where he plays for Inter Miami.
The winger had scored 11 goals in 12 appearances for Inter Miami, winning them the American League Cup.
He is one of the biggest stars in Major League Soccer currently.
Lionel Messi Reveals His Plans ahead of his Retirement From Football
The Argentine doesn’t seem to be interested in becoming a manager when he puts an end to his career.
He has revealed that he is thinking of becoming a sporting director in order to stay with his family.
However, many great legends in football have talked about how they were not interested in becoming managers but changed their decisions and went ahead to win titles as football managers.
Lionel Messi will be a great manager if he changes his decision in the future. He had played under different managers.
There are assumptions that the 2026 FIFA World Cup will be Lionel Messi’s last appearance for Argentina.
However, talks are still ongoing between the Argentina FA and Lionel Messi over playing in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
