Arsenal midfielder, Mesut Ozil has waded into the Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang-Toni Kroos row over the use of various masks for goals celebration.

The Gabonese is known for the use of masks from his time at Saint Etienne, Borussia Dortmund, and lately at Arsenal. The last the Arsenal skipper did was with the mask of a Black panther to celebrate a goal against Rennes in the Europa League clash last season.

Ozil, who is surplus to requirements at The Emirates after Mikel Arteta left him out of his Premier League and Europa League squads, will not play again until at least, January. But he is has continued expressing his support for them from a distance, with regular messages backing Arsenal appearing on his social media feed.

Aubameyang has scored two goals so far in the Premier League

He has now backed his teammate after Kroos described his goals celebration as ‘nonsense’. The German had in an interview said it’s not a good example for children.

On his new podcast Einfach mal Luppen, Kroos failed to see the funny side, taking aim at the Gabon international.

“If there are rehearsed dances or choreographies, I find it silly.

“Celebrating with masks, that’s where it ends for me. I don’t think that’s a good role model either. What nonsense,”the world cup winner said.

Replying to the German, Aubameyang quoted a picture of himself on Twitter, drawn by a school pupil asked to create an image based on happiness, in his reply to the midfielder.

Responding to the tweet, Kroos uploaded images of his kids.

While thinking the matter would have ended that way, the Arsenal skipper threw another jibe at him, showing a celebration he wore a batman’s mask to celebrate a goal alongside former teammate, Marco Reus, who also wore Robin’s mask.

In wading into the matter, the world cup winner, who seems to have had issues with Real Madrid midfielder before quitting the German national team, sided his club teammate, rather than compatriot Kroos.

Ozil described Aubameyang’s last goal celebration with a mask as the best goal.

What now remained unseen is the social media rivalry will continue. It’s a beef that is particularly puzzling as the two have never played for the same team and rarely come head-to-head in competitive action.
