Oliver Kahn, the Chief Executive Officer of Bayern Munich has admitted that he and the club’s board expected things to be different under the team’s newly appointed manager Thomas Tuchel.

Bayern Munich shocked the world of football when they announced the dismissal of their former coach Julian Nagelsmann during the International break.

No one predicted that the German tactician would be fired in the middle of the season, even though Bayern was only one point behind Borussia Dortmund at the time in the German Bundesliga standings.

The fact that Nagelsmann eliminated Paris Saint-Germain from the Champions League round of 16 in both home and away games this season should have been enough to convince Bayern’s board to keep him.

But they hired Thomas Tuchel, who had been let go by Chelsea earlier in the season. Following Tuchel’s hiring, Bayern’s DFB-Pokal hopes were dashed after a shocking loss to SC Freiburg.

Thomas Tuchel and his team also got eliminated from the UEFA Champions League by Manchester City after Pep Guardiola’s team secure a 3-0 win in the first leg of the quarter-final tie at Etihad Stadium, and a point at Allianz Arena was enough for the Citizens to booked their place in the semi-final round.

    Bayern Munich vs Manchester City in brief;

Bayern Munich’s comeback aspirations were dashed by Erling Haaland’s goal, setting up a Champions League semi-final match between reigning champions Real Madrid and Manchester City.

Bayern’s head coach Thomas Tuchel knew that his team needed a miracle to advance after they lost the first leg 3-0 and wasted numerous chances to get back in the game.

In the 15 seconds after Ederson had stopped Kingsley Coman’s shot at the other end, Haaland made them pay by rifling a shot into the top corner to complete a quick counterattack.

It was the Norwegian’s 48th goal of the season for City. He had a golden opportunity to surpass that mark earlier in the game, but he missed a penalty kick after a handball by Dayot Upamecano.

Upamecano, who was also easily beaten for the 57th-minute goal in the first leg last week, was a nightmare on the pitch in the second leg.

The City striker was offside when the French central defender was initially awarded a red card for a professional foul on Haaland early in the game.

Bayern’s Joshua Kimmich converted the penalty they were awarded for a handball by Manuel Akanji in the 83rd minute, but the German champions could not score three times in the remaining seven minutes.

The game was tense and heated at some point, and even manager Tuchel was kicked out from the stand for receiving two yellow cards.

There was no question that City deserved to advance over the two games, and they still have a chance to win the Treble this season as they are still in the race for the English Premier League, UEFA Champions League, and the FA Cup.

However, Kimmich’s penalty kick prevented Manchester City from beating Bayern home and away as the Premier League champions knocked out the German Bundesliga champions 4-1 on aggregate.

Speaking before the match Oliver Kahn said; “We always want to win, such performance, with these results, hurt us. The same goes for the fans. The Pokal exit, the draw in the Bundesliga against Hoffenheim, of course, we imagined things would go differently”.

“Everyone needs to know what’s all about in the decisive phase of the season, to show who FC Bayern are. We would still have a chance against Mainz in the league”.

“We have over 20 international players in our squad. It’s certainly not a lack of quality. There was little willingness recently. Inconsistent is our consistency. that cannot be the ambition of this team”, Oliver Kahn added.

    What’s next for Bayern Munich?
