The manager of Manchester United Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed that he has been following the football career of Erling Haaland closely. This is seen as a confirmation of the speculation linking the 20-year-old striker to the Premier League club.

Erling Haaland is the reigning winner of the Golden boy award. The Norwegian has been the most talked-about 20-year-old footballer in the world. He currently plays at Borussia Dortmund as a center-forward.

Haaland took his professional football career to the next level at Molde FK on February 1, 2017, a club based in Norway. Before he left the Norwegian club to RB Salzburg in 2019, he was under the tutelage of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for over two years.

Since he joined Borussia Dortmund from Molde FK, Haaland has grown to become a goalscoring machine. For instance, throughout the 2019-2020 season, the Norwegian scored 38 goals and provided 9 assists in 40 games for Dortmund in all competitions.

So far this season, Haaland has scored 14 goals in 15 league games, he has also recorded 4 assists in Bundesliga. The Norwegian has scored a total of 22 goals and provided 6 assists in 22 appearances in all competitions this season.

Due to how good he is, his transfer market value is estimated to be €110million. His performance has attracted the attention of some of the heavyweight clubs across Europe including Real Madrid and FC Barcelona.

But the manager of Manchester United, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes that his relationship with Haaland as his coach at Molde FK might give the Premier League side an advantage over other clubs that are interested in him.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer coached Erling Haaland between 2015 and 2018. The two Norwegian could reunite at Manchester United anytime soon.

“It’s quite certain Erling will have a fantastic career and I have always said that. I follow Erling closely. Was it 18 months we spent together or thereabouts? Almost two years maybe. It was a fantastic time”, Solskjaer told Norwegian newspaper VG.

“He will definitely have a super career both for Norway and for his club. He’s doing incredibly well for Dortmund, so we have to see where he ends up. As a Norwegian and someone who has worked with him, of course, it’s great to see he is doing so well…

“We will do our best to become a better team, and he will do his best to be a better player, but where will he end up? I do not want to say anything apart from wishing him all the best. The choice he makes is up to him.”

Haaland is not expected to leave Borussia Dortmund until the end of the 2023-2024 season. If he must leave Dortmund before his contract expires in 2024, the interested club is expected to pay off his release clause which is nothing less than €75million. However, the release clause can only be triggered in the summer of 2022.
