The manager of Manchester United, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says the club’s new signee Edinson Cavani is like Teddy Sheringham to the younger players at the club.

Teddy Sheringham joined Manchester United in June 1997, when he was 31-year-old. He was brought to the club to replace the club’s iconic star Eric Cantona.

He spent four years at Manchester United and helped the club to win three Premiership titles, one FA Cup, one UEFA Champions League, an Intercontinental Cup, and an FA Charity Shield.

Teddy Sheringham recorded 31 goals and made 104 appearances before he left the club in 2001. During his time at United, he was known to be a positive influence on the younger players.

Edinson Cavani is almost in the same shoe as Teddy Sheringham. As for Cavani, the 33-year-old Uruguayan striker joined Manchester United last summer from Paris Saint Germain. The striker is currently one of the oldest football stars at United amid a series of youngsters including Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood, and Anthony Martial.

Edinson Cavani has scored 5 goals and provided 2 assists in 19 games in all competitions. In the Premier League alone, the former Uruguay international has scored 4 Premier League goals and has provided 2 assists in 13 league games.

“Teddy came in 1997 with his experience and I learned a lot from him. I think he [Edinson Cavani] has come in and almost been a similar type of influence,” Solskjaer said.

“We were young strikers learning off Teddy, now Cavani has Mason, Marcus, and Anthony learning off him. Edinson has been a great addition.

“He leads by example, he goes about his job professionally. It’s his passion, he loves football, he loves working hard for the team. It is never me before anyone else, the team is always first.

“If he makes a mistake he is the one who is always trying to make up for it. If he makes a run to the near post and misses he will do it again and again. He believes in what he has been doing his whole football life.”

On transfers, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer revealed that Manchester United don’t intend to sign any player in the ongoing January transfer window. Manchester United have only signed Amad Diallo who Solskjaer has drafted into Manchester United’s under-23.

“The world is a different place, the financial world is a different one as well compared to a year ago. Let’s see where we are at in the summer,” Solskjaer said.
