Former Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen has been snapped up by Portuguese club Benfica as a free agent after his contract with the north London club came to an end last month, and Head Coach Jose Mourinho had reportedly advised the club not to renew his contract.
It’s believed that Vertonghen got a lot of offers from Europe’s elite club including Milan and Sevilla but chose Benfica, the Portuguese club are still in the hunt for reinforcement as they hope to bring Edison Cavani from Paris Saint-German on a free transfer despite competition from newly promoted club Leeds and Atletico Madrid.
Jan vertonghen, 33 years old spent eight years with Tottenham played over 300 times for the club and scored twelve goals but was unable to win a single silverware.
