Obafemi Martins, a former striker for the Super Eagles of Nigeria, has spoken out about how proud he is of his son for signing his first deal with a professional team.

Kevin Maussi Martins has agreed to a contract with Serie A team Monza to become a professional football player, following in the footsteps of his well-known father.

The kid played for Inter Milan Under-17s and Under-18s and AC Milan Youth before transferring to Monza, who have since offered him his first professional contract.

“First professional contract for striker born in 2005 Kevin Maussi Martins, who made his debut with AC Monza in the Primavera (youth competition) 2-0 victory over Padova!✍️,” Monza announced on Twitter on Sunday, 5th February.

Maussi Martins, who can play in front of the striker or in support of the striker, was born while his father was a player for Inter Milan in Italy and turned 18 on January 31.

“Congratulations my son, I’m so proud of you. I wish you a long and successful career at Monza,” Obafemi Martins took to his Instagram page to announce.

Obafemi Akinwunmi Martins, a former forward for the Nigerian national team, was born on October 28, 1984.

He is renowned for being swift with the ball.

Martins moved from Nigeria to Italy when he was 16 years old and has since played for several top-tier clubs around Europe.

He began his senior career in 2002 at Inter Milan of Serie A. He then transferred to Newcastle United of the Premier League in 2006, and finally to VfL Wolfsburg of the Bundesliga in 2009.

In January 2011, after he had signed with Rubin Kazan of the Russian Premier League in July 2010, they loaned him to Birmingham City.

He played with Seattle Sounders FC of Major League Soccer from 2013 to 2015, scoring 40 goals during that time, and then spent several years in China with Shanghai Shenhua and Wuhan. He also spent a season with La Liga club Levante.

Martins has won the Serie A championship, the Italian Cup (twice), and the Italian Super Cup, all while playing with Inter.

He scored the game-winning goal for Birmingham in the 2011 Football League Cup Final.

He has played in Europe for Inter, Newcastle, and Wolfsburg, and with Newcastle he won the UEFA Intertoto Cup. 

In his previous league seasons, he has scored 11 goals in the Serie A of 2004–05 and 17 goals in the Premier League of 2006–07 and the Major League Soccer of 2014, respectively.

Martins has participated in international football competitions for Nigeria, including the FIFA World Cup in 2010, the Africa Cup of Nations in 2006, 2008, and 2010.

After scoring a remarkable goal while wearing the AC Milan uniform in 2018, Kevin Maussi Martins became the attention of the world.

Since then, he has transferred to Inter Milan, the team where his father made history by scoring 49 goals in 136 games for the Nerazzurri in all competitions and winning the Serie A.

Kevin Maussi Martins, born January 31, 2005, has sworn allegiance to Italy by joining the country’s youth team.

On November 22, 2019, Maussi Martins made his debut for the Italy U-15 team. Since then, he has featured in three games for the young Nerazzurri and scored one goal.

The young and vivacious forward has displayed traits similar to those of his father, including an eye for goal scoring. He is still eligible to play for the Super Eagles of Nigeria and Italy.
