The Nigeria Football Federation director of communication, Dr. Ademola Olajere, provided well-detailed information about what happened to the Super Eagles and NFF delegates that were sent to Libya.

The Super Eagles travelled to Libya for the 2025 African Cup of Nations qualifiers but suffered a significant inhuman treatment. 

These are the detailed revelations on how the Super Eagles had their worst experience in Libya.

How the Super Eagles of Nigeria Travelled to Libya For the Return Leg of the 2025 African Cup of Nations Qualifiers 

The Nigerian football team took a flight using the Chartered Valuejet aircraft from an airport in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria landed in Kano at 1:10 PM WAT from Uyo.

The Super Eagles left Nigeria for Libya at 3:18 pm WAT for a three-hour and 35-minute flight to Benghazi, Libya. 

When they were about to land in Benghazi, the pilot in charge of the Super Eagle aircraft received an instruction to navigate the aircraft to the Al-Abraq airport.

The Super Eagles landed at the Al-Abraq International airport in Libya at 7:50 PM WAT. The place of arrival, Al Abraq Airport, doesn’t have the expected facilities it should have possessed.

It took the Al Abraq officials an hour to critically check all the luggage of the Nigeria Football Players and other NFF delegates.

Libya Football Federation Failed to Welcome The Nigeria Football Federation Delegates and the Super Eagles Players

The Libya Football Federation members failed to welcome the Super Eagles upon their arrival to Libya.

It is a norm for a delegation of a football federation to welcome a visiting national team.

Furthermore, the delegated members of the NFF went ahead to check whether there was any bus waiting for the team. However, the airport officials unreasonably stopped the NFF delegates.

The NFF put a call to the Secretary of the LFF, Mr. Naseer, who promised the Super Eagles a quick arrival of the buses.

The buses didn’t arrive, and the NFF decided to continue reaching out to the general secretary of the LFF.

After there were no sight of buses for the Super Eagles after they waited for hours, NFF made an attempt to hire personal buses on their own.

The Al Abraq Airport authorities stopped the NFF delegates from taking actions on their own in an attempt to hire personal buses.

It led to the exchange of words between the General Secretary of the NFF and the securities personnel of the Al Abraq airport.

Nigeria Footballers Became Restless After The Libya Football Federation Failed to Provide Food Or Water

After a long hour of tension, the players became restless, with the LFF failing to provide food or water for the Super Eagles. Inclusively, there was no provision of wifi around the airport by the Al-Abraq authorities.

The aformentioned led to heavy frustrations from some of the players who took to social media to express their anger.

How the Higher Authorities of the Libya Football Federation Reacted to the Excessive Delay at the Airport

The authorities of the Libya Football Federation told the Al-Abraq Airport authorities to delay the Super Eagles for an additional 10 hours.

The LFF claimed they face the same inhumane treatment in Nigeria.

The NFF were shocked with the action of the Libya Football Federation, with claims that the Libya National team caused the alleged maltreatment in Nigeria.

NFF decided to boycott the game and went ahead to withdraw the Super Eagles from Libya

The NFF decided to boycott the game after the horrible treatment by the Libya Football Federation. 

Also, they decided to return to Nigeria after spending hours at the Al-Abraq airport. 

The Super Eagles landed in Nigeria at exactly 3:05 PM WAT in Kano before they moved down to Abuja.
