Nicolo Fagioli is ready to negotiate with the prosecutors, and Aston Villa winger Nicolo Zaniolo is also ready to testify over alleged gambling habits that had been exhibited by the two Italians.
If Nicolo Fagioli’s negotiation with the prosecutor becomes successful, his punishment may be reduced.
It was reported that Union Berlin defender Leonardo Bonucci is aware of Nicolo Fagioli’s addiction to betting, which was revealed through phone conversations between the players.
However, there is no evidence that the Union Berlin star participated in the gambling.
Zaniolo played blackjack and poker on illegal platforms, but he did not realize they were illegal and didn’t bet on football.
Zaniolo lawyer Gianluca Tognozzi said, “Nicolo never bet. He also told me this.”
“It is possible he played card games such as poker and blackjack on an illegal online platform without knowing they were illegal. We will clarify everything.”
Zaniolo, Nicolo Fagioli, and Sandro Tonali have been named in part of an investigation conducted by Turin Prosecutors.
The Italy manager reacted to the incident, saying, “It is right; we look to defend them and help them, but justice will take its course.
“If rules were broken, then it is right that a price should be paid”. We need to talk about the risk of falling into these temptations.”
“We need to speak to these young people about the fact that there are these pitfalls.”
The three players involved face a lengthy ban of three years if they are found guilty of breaking the betting rules.
In the Italian rules and regulations originated by the Country’s FA, footballers are not permitted to bet on sports in which they participate.
