Frank Lampard has expressed worrisome that N’Golo Kante’s injury “doesn’t look great”. The Chelsea midfielder has suffered a slow start this season and was forced off the pitch in the 12th minute during their 2-0 defeat to Manchester United at Stamford Bridge. The France international was replaced with Mason Mount.

In a post-match press conference, Chelsea boss Lampard admitted: “It’s an adductor injury. We’ll have to assess it but it doesn’t look great.”

Kante who started this season plagued with an injury seems to have put his fitness issues behind him having featured in 13 of the 14 fixtures.

Lampard was asked if the 28-year-old’s latest injury was related to a previous injury and the Blues boss said, “I don’t know that yet for sure. I wouldn’t want to give you that information. I know it’s the same leg, so it’s similar.”

Kante’s injury provides a fresh headache for Lampard as Chelsea have now allowed their rivals back into the race to qualify for the Champions League. Tottenham will face Stamford over the weekend and Lampard will have to come out with 3 points if he still plans on finishing in the top 4. Kante will likely be missing in action if the injury is as bad as Lampard’s fears.

Meanwhile, Lampard was left fuming after his side suffered a terrible defeat to Manchester United. United are now within three points of Chelsea thanks to a headed goal from Anthony Martial and a goal from Harry Maguire. Chelsea has now lost their fifth home defeat of the season.

Lampard giving his reaction to VAR decisions during the match, the Blues boss said: “Tough to take on lots of levels, some footballing, some others. It’s football and it’s life. I’m not complaining about any work ethic from the lads, their heads are down in there. It’s a tough night for us.”

Chelsea will have a tough and busy couple of weeks ahead. The Blues will travel to Germany next week Tuesday for their first leg clash against Bayern Munich in the Champions League. After that, the Blues have an away game at Bournemouth before their FA Cup tie against Liverpool.
