According to ESPN, no deal has been agreed on at the moment and both parties are taking their time to consider the best options. Meanwhile, PSG and the Brazilian are optimistic about reaching an agreement before April or May.
The relationship between Neymar and PSG has been strained since last summer after the Brazilian tried to force a return to Barcelona, but a source told ESPN the player is settled in the French capital and the relationship between player and club is much better.
The forward has two-and-a-half years left on his contract and tying Neymar to a long-term contract would be a major coup for PSG. Also, informal talks have already taken place between PSG sporting director Leonardo and Neymar’s father.
Neymar has looked happy on the pitch, and is in sensational form since returning from injury and suspension, scoring 13 goals and seven assists in 15 matches for PSG in all competitions this season. He has also scored in each of his last eight matches to equal a club record.
Neymar’s partnership with Kylian Mbappe, with a supporting cast of Angel Di Maria and Mauro Icardi, has appeared exciting and dynamic under coach Thomas Tuchel as the club occupies the first position on the French League.
Another PSG star is also facing contract dilenma is forward Kylian Mbappe. The France international has an offer on the table to renew his contract but has not made a decision yet.
The French superstar has noticeably been dodging questions about his future with Paris Saint-Germain. As no surprise, he insisted, “”it’s not the right time to make some waves.” Mbappe made this statement following the Parisians’ Coupe de la Ligue rout of Saint-Etienne on Wednesday, when asked about his future with PSG.
It’s no secret that fellow Frenchman Zinedine Zidane has a great deal of admiration for the striker. Mbappe has also been linked severally, to the La Liga giants Real Madrid.
PSG sporting director Leonardo has previously revealed talks over a new contract are progressing, with Mbappe’s current deal running through to the end of the 2021-22 season. When Asked about his future following PSG’s 6-1 Coupe de la Ligue quarter-final rout of Saint-Etienne on Wednesday, Mbappe told reporters: “I am ready to play football first. Because we are in January.”
Elaborating more on his future with the club, the 21 year old striker had this to say, “we start the final sprint, where we can compete for trophies. I think it’s not the right time to make some waves. The club are calm, serene, everyone is walking in the same direction so talking about external things off the pitch would not be realistic or good.”
