Brazil and Paris Saint-Germain star player Neymar Jr has reportedly activated an extension of his contract with the club until 2027 and that could mean an end to the recent transfer rumors about him leaving PSG this summer.
The Brazilian has been recently linked with a move to clubs like Chelsea and Newcastle United after PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi commented on his future. According to Nasser Al-Khelaifi, PSG players would have to work hard next season.
This statement raised speculations that Paris Saint-Germain have informed Neymar Jr that he was no longer wanted in the squad ahead of the coming season. Paris Saint-Germain are working to free up cash to buy some players during the current transfer window and Neymar is the least disciplined high earner in their squad.
He could also be seen as the black sheep in the PSG front three which has Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe who has extended his contract with Paris Saint-Germain.

The 30-year-old joined PSG in 2017 for a record-breaking £199.8 million but has been dropping in stats and performance along the years. The Brazilian hitman scored 13 league goals in 22 games for PSG as they went on to win the French Ligue 1 last season but he was mainly at the hospital from December to February because of an ankle injury.
However, Neymar reportedly felt targeted after the club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi talked about the shortcomings in the club and what they expect from their players. However, according to the Sport newspaper, Neymar has decided to use the contract option, which would keep him in Paris through 2027.
The Brazilian has a contract with PSG through 2025 after extending it during the 2021/22 season. Neymar Jr is reportedly on a whooping £24m-a-year contract, which means that buying the Brazilian will require a lot of funds and most teams are not financially capable.
Meanwhile his Brazilian teammate at Chelsea, Thiago Silva has told him to come to Chelsea if he desires to leave PSG this summer. Another Brazilian from Newcastle United Joelinton has admitted that the No.10 jersey will be made available to Neymar if he joins them.
Although most teams are not financially stable, Newcastle United can comfortably afford Neymar Jr’s transfer fee and wages. However, the promise of UEFA Champions League competition and an opportunity to challenge for the English Premier League will make it difficult for Neymar to join Newcastle United this summer.
