The Brazil international is scheduled to have surgery to mend ankle ligaments, which will keep him out for at least three months.

Since being carried off during his team’s 4-3 victory over Lille last month, Neymar, who has 13 goals and 11 assists in Ligue 1 this season, has been absent from PSG’s last two matches.

On Neymar injury update, a statement from PSG read, “Neymar Jr. has had several episodes of instability in his right ankle in recent years.

“Following his last sprain contracted on Feb. 20, the medical staff … recommended a ligament repair operation to avoid a major risk of recurrence. All the experts consulted have confirmed this necessity.”

“A delay of three to four months is expected before his return to training.”

He will have the procedure in Doha, Qatar, according to PSG.

The team is in first place in the league with an eight-point advantage over Marseille in second.

They are behind 1-0 going into their match against Bayern Munich on Wednesday in the second leg of the Champions League round of 16.

Neymar reiterated in a Monday update that once he has healed from his surgery, he would return to make a significant contribution.

The Brazilian wrote in the caption of a photo of himself on Instagram appearing defeated: “I’ll come back stronger.”

The injury to one of his key players infuriated PSG manager Christophe Galtier, who blamed his team’s busy schedule as the main cause of Neymar’s physical problems.

In addition to missing the 2019 Copa America, the former Barcelona player lost many weeks of 2021 due to ligament tears in his right ankle.

The South American developed the odd sickness in the early months of his stay in France, but a broken metatarsal in February 2018 ended his rookie season at PSG early.

He spent many weeks in the hospital after suffering a similar injury in January 2019, and hamstring issues prevented him from playing in the 2019–20 season.

Since then, adductor problems have sadly become regular, and the attacker has consistently struggled with ankle problems.
