The conclusion to prolong Neymar’s deal at the Parc des Princes until 2022 was presumably regretted by Paris Saint-Germain executives.

The former Barcelona winger signed a contract extension with Mauricio Pochettino that would retain him at the club until 2025. Neymar makes €40 million (£33 million) every season, which is far more than Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe, his offensive teammates.

PSG is on the brink of clinching the French title, but the club’s fans are yet to pardon their players for their untimely Champions League elimination at the hands of Real Madrid and the French champions may be inclined to condemn their shortcomings on the player who cost them a world-record-breaking £200 million in the summer of 2017.

During PSG’s outright win over Bordeaux in March, both Neymar and Messi got booed savagely by the crowd. Regardless of the fact that Neymar scored in a comfortable 3-0 home victory, PSG fans proceeded to criticize Messi and Neymar for their Champions League elimination.

According to SPORT, this feeling has permeated the PSG board of directors, who are alleged to regret their decision to renew his contract. The Parisian bosses are said to be upset with Neymar’s numerous injuries and highly uneven performances.

After signing the new contract extension in May 2021, Neymar was reported to have said “The atmosphere and mood is a stark contrast to the initial relief that he chose to remain at the Parc des Princes. I’m very happy to be extending my contract with Paris until 2025”

“The truth is that I’m very happy to be staying here for four more years, to be a part of the club’s project, to try and win titles, to try and achieve our biggest dream which is the Champions League. So I’m happy to be staying at the club, to be a part of it, and to be extending my contract.”

He further promulgated by saying “The joy of being part of this squad, of the team, of Paris Saint-Germain, the club. And then, of course, the affinity I have with the club, with the work, with the players that are in the squad today, with a great coach who will certainly help us even more. These things make you believe in the project even more”
