Brazil international and former Barcelona striker Neymar Jr raised to the occasion as he netted twice to enable PSG to secure their second consecutive 2022-2023 French Ligue victory.

The Parisians took the game to the visitors with characteristic grit and style which earned them an early goal. The visitors conceded a penalty in the first half of the game with Mbappe shooting into the gloves of the Montpellier goalkeeper.

The hosts later had to capitalize on the visitors’ defensive blunder which resulted in Falaye Sacko’s own goal to go into an early lead.

After Sacko’s own goal, the visitors began to push immediately in search of an equalizer, all to no avail. Neymar picked at the opposite defensive crack to net twice for Parisians. The first was from a spot kick after the visitors committed a foul in the box. The Brazil International nodded the second into the net to make it three unreplied goals for the hosts.

Tchato and Khazirir scored for the visitors but second-half goals from Renato Snches and Kylian Mbappe wiped off any traces of hope of recovery for the visitors.

It was Galtier’s second French Ligue 1 game in the 2022-2023 season and a first home game at Paris. The Parisians have scored a whopping ten goals in two French Ligue 1 matches. They had defeated Clement foot with the same scoreline but Montpellier were able to pull two back unlike Clement Foot who felled to the star-studded club like docile dogs.

Heavy pressure from the French giants gave way for a 23rd-minute penalty emanating from Jordan Ferri’s handball. Jonas Omlin was well placed to parry off the ball and save the penalty.

The Galtier-led team then ran riot, led by Neymar Jr, who bagged a brace to put the Parisians in control of the game. The Brazil International has been on fire after two French Ligue 1 matches.

He was on target when the Parisians humbled Clemont Foot 5-0; a match that brought Lionel Mess again to the spotlights after pulling a superb overhead kick to score for the visitors.

Messi failed to register his presence against Montpellier, but his former Barcelona teammate was on top of his game in the encounter.

Recall that earlier this summer, Neymar weathered a stormy transfer summer in his PSG career after speculations emerged, linking him to a possible exit from the club.

Also, after last season, PSG owner Nasser Al-Khelaifa reportedly complained bitterly about PSG players saying some of them are not doing enough for the team with a subtle reference to Neymar’s poor outing with the club last season.

Uncertainty around Neymar’s PSG future heightened when Mbappe’s contract was renewed with some ludicrous and behind-the-scene agreements.

However, it appears the French giants are ready to put behind a poor performance last season. They know that winning the French title is not enough.

Nasser Al-Khelaifa sacked Mauricio Pochettino despite winning the French Ligue 1 title. The Qatari business tycoon who owns the club wants the coveted Champions League trophy, and it appears that Galtier and his awakened squad are ready for the challenge.
