The new owners of Newcastle United, the Saudi Arabia-backed consortium, are set to make the current coach of Ajax, Erik ten Hag one of the highest-paid coaches in the Premier League if he agrees to join the club.

The 51-year-old Dutch tactician has been the coach of Ajax since 2017. He has helped the club to win two Eredivisie, two KNVB Cup, and one Johan Cruyff Shield.

Ten Hag has made Ajax very consistent in the Champions League since he became the coach of the Dutch side. He led the club to a semi-final finish in 2019.

Based on his antecedent, coach Erik ten Hag is seen as one of the most prominent coaches in Europe, and Newcastle United are ready to pay him £6 million per year after tax if he is willing to resign his appointment at Ajax to coach Newcastle. His gross wage at Newcastle United would be over £11 million.

If Erik ten Hag joins Newcastle United, he would become the third highest-paid coach in the Premier League behind Pep Guardiola of Manchester City and Jurgen Klopp of Liverpool.

Pep Guardiola is reportedly earning £20 million per year at Manchester City. While Jurgen Klopp is reportedly earning £15 million per year at Liverpool.

However, reports claimed that Erik ten Hag is unwilling to leave his role at Ajax, a UEFA Champions League playing club, for Newcastle United that are currently struggling in the relegation zone in the Premier League.

If Ten Hag turns down Newcastle United, it would be the second time the Dutch tactician turned down an offer from a Premier League club. Recall that when Tottenham Hotspur sacked Jose Mourinho, the Premier League club attempted to sign Ten Hag but the Dutchman turned down the offer.

The situation of Newcastle United is quite different from that of Tottenham Hotspur because Newcastle United have a lot to spend on players recruitment.

Recall that earlier in October, a Saudi Arabia-backed consortium bought Newcastle United for over £300 million. The group is reportedly worth over £320 billion which means that the group has a lot of money to spend.

Unlike Erik ten Hag who is unwilling to join Newcastle United, former coach of Roma, Paulo Fonseca is willing to become the coach of the Premier League club.

Recall that when Newcastle United sacked coach Steve Bruce earlier in the month, Fonseca was seen as the frontrunner for the job.

Reports claimed that Newcastle United have begun talks to appoint Fonseca but the club’s board is reportedly having a second thought over his appointment.
