The game was a top-four cracker as Newcastle looked set to avenge Carabao Cup final loss to the Red Devils

The Magpies went into the game winless in their last six encounters against the Red Devils.

They have lost four and drew 2 and have lost against the Red Devils more than any other Premier League side.

The reverse fixture saw the Magpies force Manchester United to a goalless draw at Old Trafford but they ended up losing the Carabao Cup final to the Red Devils.

    Starting lineup

Newcastle United: Nick Pope; Kieran Trippier, Fabian Schar, Sven Botman, Dan Burn; Sean Longstaff, Bruno Guimaraes, Joe Willock; Jacob Murphy, Alexander Isak, Allan Saint-Maximin.

Manchester United: David De Gea; Diogo Dalot, Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez, Luke Shaw; Marcel Sabitzer, Scott McTominay; Antony, Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford; Wout Weghorst.

It was a scrappy start from both sides as the game got underway.

Newcastle seems to have the better of Manchester United from the kickoff but rarely made an headway at the Man United box.

In the 14th minute, the referee paused the game after Antony collided with Burn but play later resumed after the former Ajax star seemed okay to carry on.

Newcastle piled up pressure on Manchester United going forward. Diogo Dalot had to grapple with the pace and speed of Allan Saint-Maximin.

Longstaff and Trippier proved deadly on the wings combining well to beat Deigo Dalot and make good attempts inside the Man United box.

It was a one-sided play. Newcastle proved too good for the Red Devils to handle. They matched their hunger for a win with pace, drive, and passion, forcing the game heavily on Manchester United.

In the 38th minute, Newcastle came close to a great chance to make their dominance count but Longstaff fired wide.

United failed to make a clear attempt on Newcastle goal but were forced to drink from a firehose of constant pressure by the Magpies.

The first half ended barren but Newcastle were the better side with more attacking momentum.

Manchester United seemed to have a bit control of proceedings as the first half started but the game was soon wrestled away from them in the 50th minute.

Newcastle continued to mount heavy pressure and were looking set to take the lead.

Obviously losing balance against the Magpies, Erik Ten Hag took off Wout Weghorst and Antony for Anthony Martial and Jadon Sancho.

The substitution made little or no impact as Newcastle continued to dominate play.

After a marathon of pressure from the Magpies, the goal deadlock was finally broken in the 65th minute.

Guimaraes float the ball into the box before Saint-Maximin nodded toward the center of the box. Wilock then nods home from close range to give the home side a deserved 1-0 lead.

Despite taking a 1-0 lead, Newcastle continued to dominate play and were looking set to double the lead.

Manchester United failed to create any clear chance going forward and were still playing second fiddle to the Magpies.

Erik Ten Hag made further changes to the squad bringing on Fred, Pellistri, and Lindelof for McTominay, Lisandro Martinez, and Varane respectively.

In the 88th minute, Newcastle sealed the win with another goal courtesy of Wilson.

Wilson flicked in Trippier’s freekick into the far post to make it 2-0 for the home side.

It was indeed a game over for Manchester United after conceding the second goal.

The match ended with Newcastle grabbing a deserved 2-0 win. It was a defining win for the Magpies as they climbed above Manchester United to the third spot in the Premier League table.
