    Newcastle United dismantled Tottenham Hotspur at St James Park to boost their Champions League hopes ahead of next season.

    It was a nightmare start for Tottenham Hotspur and a big blow to their top-four hopes.

    Newcastle roast the visitors with a rain of goals just 21 minutes into the game.

    Murphy started the rout for the Magpies just 62 seconds into the game.

    A defensive lapse by Spurs saw Joelington charge down acres of space on the Tottenham defense before firing at Hugo Lloris.

    Lloris saved it but could not punch it far off from goal leaving Murphy to volley home the rebound to give Newcastle the lead.

    Four minutes after Murphy’s opener, Newcastle doubled the lead for the home side with Joelington’s goal.

    Joelington effectively beat a rickety Tottenham defense, latching on a diagonal ball to round Lloris and fire into the back of the net.

    Nine minutes into the game, Newcastle continued in the rout with Tottenham making little or no attempt to stop the Magpies.

    It was Murphy with a brace. The forward made it 3-0 for Newcastle with a thunderbolt strike from 25 yards pass Loris.

    The goal resulted from one of the many blunders by Tottenham. Son was dispossessed by Schar who set up Murphy for the goal.

    Tottenham looked more disoriented after Newcastle’s third goal coming just nine minutes into the game. The Magpies continued to dominate proceedings going forward despite the 3-0 lead.

    In the 19th minutes, Isak scored Newcastle’s fourth goal to set the Magpies enroute to a dreamland first-half finish.

    It was a great finish from the top striker after being teed up with a perfect throughball from Wilock as he fired into the bottom-left corner to make it 4-0 for the Magpies.

    Two minutes after his first goal, Isak hit his brace as Newcastle condemned Tottenham to the biggest first-half defeat this season.

    After a perfect effort on Tottenham’s half, Isak took possession of the ball and wasted no time firing on goal. Hugo Lloris had his hands on the shot but could not keep it off as it went into the back of the net.

    Newcastle ran riot over Spurs in the first half. It was Spurs’ biggest first half defeat this season and a big blow to their top four hopes.

    Tottenham’s manager Cristian Stellini was forced to make a first half substitution in the game bringing off Sarr, a defender, for Sanchez before the Lilywhites stopped conceding goals.

    But the damage was done already with the visitors heading into the first-half break with a 5-0 deficit.

    At the start of second half, Hugo Lloris was substituted in a significant move by Stellini with Forster coming on.

    Harry Kane got an early consolation goal for the visitors in the 47th minute after he fired into the bottom-right corner following a great run but it was medicine after death as Newcastle had a perfect grip on the game after the first-half rout.

    In the 67th minute, Newcastle hit their 6th goal with substitute Wilson slotting home a deflection into the bottom corner to make it 6-1.

    It was a gameover for Tottenham at St James Park. The Magpies continued to exert control despite an astonishng 6-1 lead.

    It was a deserved win for the Champions League hopefuls as they finished strong to grab all three points against the top-four contenders after the final whistle.

    The win saw Newcastle consolidate their push on the top-four race as they move up to third position on the table with 59 points from 31 games.
