Newcastle United captain, Jamaal Lascelles, is on the spotlight following a viral footage of him and his cohorts engaging in a grueling brawl with gangsters.
A footage of the incident shared by the Mail, shows Lascelles battling it out with ruthless assailants, who were later identified as gangsters.
Reports from close sources said Jamaal Lascelles was on a night out with his brother and a friend at Chinawhite club in Newcastle city center when the incident occurred.
Eyewitnesses said Lascelles and his companions had finished enjoying themselves at Chinawhite club and were about to step out when an anonymous assailant initiated an attack.
The assailant is said to have walked up to Lascelles’ brother and gave him a deadly blow with his elbow. It is still unclear why the assailant attacked Lascelles’ brother. Meanwhile, Lascelles lost his cool on the assailant and attempted a revenge on him.
His reaction escalated the fight as other gangsters, numbering ‘six to eight’ waded into the fight in full force, attacking Lescelles, his brother and his friend.
Lescelles was able to throw down one of the assailants after evading an attempt on his head with a vodka bottle.
His brother and friend are said to have sustained gruesome injuries with his brother badly wounded in the head after being hit with a vodka bottle.
His friend, who also joined the fight, is said to have received a near-death blow by one of the assailants that left him gasping for breath and collapsing to the floor.
The mass brawl raged on for minutes before onlookers signaled security operatives, who arrived the scene to disperse the fight.
Lescelles’ friend has been reportedly hospitalized after the incident as he was left unconscious for minutes, including his brother who was wounded in the attack. The gangsters reportedly fled the scene after security operatives arrived.
Investigations into the cause of the incident has begun but it has been confirmed no arrest has been made yet. Newcastle United have reportedly been informed of the incident involving their captain. The Magpies are also set to begin investigation into the incident but have maintained everything will be done internally.
Jamaal Lascelles
Jamaal Lascelles is an English professional footballer who plays as a center-back for Newcastle United in the Premier League.
Born on 11 November 1999 in Derby, England, Lascelles started his youth career at Nottingham Forest before making his first professional appearance for the club in 2011. He spent three years at the club, struggling for his place before leaving to Newcastle United in 2014 after managing 32 Premier League appearances with 2 goals.
He has made 202 appearances for Newcastle United since joining the club but has fallen down the pecking order since Eddie Howe took over as manager.
Lascelles has served two loan spells in his career – one at Stevenage in 2012 and the other at Nottingham Forest in 2014.
He won Championships with Newcastle United in 2017, made PFA Championships Team of the Year in 2017, and also won Newcastle United Player of the Year.
Last season, Lascelles made only 7 Premier League appearances for Newcastle United. He is linked with move away from the club this summer with Turkish side Besiktas interested in signing him.
