Napoli is one win away from clinching the Serie A title, but the title-decider has been postponed.

Napoli last won the Serie A in 1990

It’s not a good news for Napoli fans who longed for their first Serie A title in decades.

Napoli last won the Serie A title in 1990, 33 years ago. They were the first and last Serie A team from Southern Italy to clinch the trophy.

The Serie A title seems to have been an exclusive reserve of teams from Northern Italy with Juventus, Inter Milan, and AC Milan dominating the league.

Napoli is the only Northern Italian club that has won the trophy and they have managed to win it only two times in the club’s history.

The Azzuri first won the trophy in 1987. Football legend, Diego Maradona, was at the heart of the Azzuri’s impressive Serie A run that year.

The Argentine set the team enroute to their first Serie A victory, beating the challenge from closest rivals Juventus with three points gap.

After two years, Napoli were back to the Serie A title race and ended up winning it for the second time in the club’s history.

Diego Maradona was on the spotlights again as the Azzuri beat another closest rival from the North, Inter Milan, by two points to clinch the trophy.

Napoli is a win away from being crowned 2022/23 Serie A champions

Since then, it has been over three decades since the club have laid hands on Scudetto again.

Juventus, Inter Milan, and AC Milan have shared the title between them for decades with Napoli finishing as runners-up on eight occasions.

This season, Napoli are set to finish strong in Serie A and are bracing up to end their 33 years wait for the Serie A title.

Most Napoli fans, under 30, will witness the Azzuri lift the Scudetto for the first time in their lives.

Victor Osimhen has led Napoli’s Serie A title charge

It will be such a big moment for the club and a feat well deserved for the fight the players have put up so far this season, with Nigeria international Victor Osimhen leading the charge.

Luciano Spalletti’s Napoli have been a revelation this season. With seven matches remaining to the end of the season, Napoli are just an inch away from the title.

After 31 games, they have racked up 78 points, winning 25 games, losing 3, and drawing 3.

Second-placed Lazio head into matchday 32 with 61 points, 17 points adrift of Napoli. If Napoli defeat their next opponent, while Lazio lose to Inter Milan at San Siro, they will increase the lead at the top to 20 or 19 points, making them the first Serie A club to win the title with 6 games remaining to the end of the season.

Speaking ahead of the matchday 32 clash, Luciano Spalletti said;

“I don’t like to celebrate in advance. If we all do it together there will be twice as much joy.”

Napoli title-decider postponed

The Azzuri were expected to take on Salernitana on April 29 but the match has been postponed due to a book convention that will draw extra crowd to Naples and possibly distract the game.

The report confirms the match has been rescheduled to Sunday April 30.

A win for Napoli will see the Rossoneri crown 2022/23 Serie A champions.

Napoli Vs Salernitana kickoff time, venue, and how to watch
