Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has reacted to an apology by Ghana MP Isaac Adongo.
Isaac Adongo had on January 2023 made a saitrical football comparison between Ghana’s economic chiefs and Harry Maguire.
According to Adongo, Ghana economic handlers were bleeding the Ghanaian economy with self-defeating policies that is not yielding results.
He added such measures are similar to what Harry Maguire does at Manchester United – performing poorly as a defender and even helping his opponents by scoring own goals.
The satirical comment by Adongo struck a chord with football fans in the globe and went viral as it captured Harry Maguire’s dwindling fortunes at Manchester United that time.
Harry Maguire was the most berated defender in England and in the Premier League and was constantly made a laughing stock by England and Man United fans.
He was dropped to the bench by Erik ten Hag as he fell off the pecking order in the Dutch’s defense options.
Nevertheless, the former Leicester City defender was still a key player for Gareth Southgate and was actively involved with the Three Lions at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar but his Manchester United misfortunes continued regardless.
Erik ten Hag revealed Harry Maguire was not measuring up to his competitors like Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez.
The club were ready to part ways with Maguire in the summer with a move to West Ham on the table but he rejected the move and instead opted to continue fighting for his place at the club.
To cap his dwindling fortunes at the club, Maguire was stripped from his role as Man United captain by Erik ten Hag.
This season, it was still not looking good for the England center-back in United’s first seven games as he continued cutting a frustrated figure on Man United bench.
After the torrid stint since last season, it appears there has been light at the end of the tunnel for Harry Maguire.
He has regained his starting berth at Manchester United, displacing his competitor Raphael Varane to the bench.
Maguire put up a man of the match performance against FC Copenhagen in Champions League, scoring the lone goal to secure all three points for the Red Devils.
He also assisted Scott McTominay’s brace to help United complete a dramatic late comeback against Brentford at Old Trafford in the Premier League.
Following his improved performance for Man United, Isaac Adongo on Ghana Parliament tendered an apology to Harry Maguire saying;
“You remember that last year I was very quick to call my big brother, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Harry Maguire,” he told parliament. “Mr Speaker, I now apologise to Harry Maguire…
“Today, Maguire has turned the corner and is a transformational footballer. Maguire is now scoring goals for Manchester United. Mr Speaker, Harry Maguire is now a key player for Manchester United.”

Taking to his social media handle, Harry Maguire has accepted the apology.
Maguire wrote, “MP Adongo apology accepted. See you at Old Trafford soon.”
Did MP Adongo Go too far with Harry Maguire satire?
MP Isaac Adongo’s comment on Harry Maguire passed as a harmless satire for many. Adongo must have struck a chord with thousands of football fans who could relate with his parliamentary rhetoric. However, we have seen England national team manager Gareth Southgate, including ex-England internationals like Rio Ferdinand scold with stern voices mocking and booing fans who makes jest of Harry Maguire.
Adongo’s comment, as innocent and sublime as it sounded, further projected Maguire in a bad light. But it is pretty good the England international has been able to prove critics wrong and return to the apex of his game.
